Wow a movie about WWII. That's never been done.

The action is also given a boost by the capable award-laden cinematographer Roger Deakins (Skyfall).

And No Country for Old Men, Fargo, etc etc etc

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005683/

I'll consider seeing it in the theater.

Amazing story. I hope they do the book justice. Emotional roller-coaster. Louis just died last week. Too bad he won't be able to see the final product.

Yeah, that made me sad as well. It would have been great for him to be at the premiere.

The joos take over palestine and hollywood, the japanese and germans take over the automotive industry, and the americans learn a thing or two about comupters like and such as.

I heard on NPR that she was doing her best to honor him and make this as realistic a portrayal as possible.

Sweet. Parts of the movie were filmed in my city and a small town nearby. Considering it's rural NSW (about 5 hours' drive from Sydney), Angelina caused quite a stir the couple of times she visited.

And I too was sad to hear of Louis's passing last week. I'm confident the movie will do his story justice, though.

The trailer just showed essentially the entire plot and most of the good scenes.  Why bother going to the theater to pay to sit through all the pee breaks?

Seems to be quite a few Japs running around in the Atlantic there.

I thought I saw an Interview with Zamperini and Jolie where they said he'd seen most of it.  Could be mistaken.

I'm really excited about this movie.  The book is improbably fascinating - I would've sworn it was a work of fiction, just too many unbelievable anecdotes and happenstances.  To know that it's being made by Angelina Jolie, who did a fantastic job with Changeling, and the Coen brothers, makes this a must-see, for me anyway.

It's definitely not a WWII biopic, although I think it will be about 40% of the story.  I think the Olympics part of it is a bit more fascinating.

I believe the preferred nomenclature is Asian Atlantic.

Certainly agree with your overall assessment, but Jolie only acted in Changeling.  It was directed by Clint Eastwood.

BravadoGT: Where's her tits?

I believe she's "directing" (since she's a former actor who's mostly providing contacts/funding, the more appropriate term is probably "producing", but whatever).  Wrong end of the camera for that.

For all that, it seems reasonably entertaining, if not exactly  interesting as such.  Probably trying for award-bait but it looks like it might be coming out all right in spite of that.

Yeah, because watching a 2 minute trailer is exactly the same as watching the whole movie.

Looks good. If the movie is half as good as the book, it'll do very well.
