dittybopper: [cdn3.whatculture.com image 460x275]I'll have to see about giving our Persians some sushi. 'Cause that seems hipster.
Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: Or they're just assholes.
poonesfarm: Or: A list of 20 things which proves once again that the term "hipster" is entirely meaningless.
sigdiamond2000: The entire "hipster this," "hipster that" thing essentially boils down to class envy. It doesn't have anything to do with hipsterism. It has to do with money.
Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: My cats don't like sushi. They beg & beg for whatever is on our plates, but then when we give in, they just walk away. It's weird.Or they're just assholes.
MightyPez: Scarfs? fark you, when it's -50 degrees outside I'm wrapping myself up in the biggest scarf I can find.
Big Beef Burrito: Why the fark did those need to be animated .gifs?
Mikey1969: Really?"Bikes""Music""Facial Hair""Weddings"Wow, the author must never leave his panic room, since at some point, a hipster is gonna break into this house and set up beehives, or something.
imfallen_angel: 2 facial hair, messy and stupid looking as a attention whore device, yup agreed, you look like an idiot.
imfallen_angel: Hipsterism is about doing something out of place or such, because you think it makes you look "different" and "special" basically only for attention, regardless if you like doing it or not.so the list:20 iPhone, nope, not hipsters, just attention whores19 V-Necks, not really, just 70s style18 Typewriters, who the heck would really other with them now... I loved mine when that was the only way to type a letter (I said TYPE not write)17 Novels, since everyone has been able to write/type, everyone, just like those with cameras believe themselves to be a photographer, they think that they can write.16 sushi, it's delicious, get over it... it was the "in-thing" in the 90s for the preppies and such to impress others, but today, it's common-place.15 scarves, unless it's winter or fairly chilly outside, or part of an outfit, which includes a tuxedo, yeah, it looks stupid.14 bowties, meh, the fashion comes and goes.13 suspenders, see 1412 nutella, it's a freaking spread, either you like it or you don't11 hats, it's a fashion that comes and goes, this one is fairly obvious when you see the person, either they look like idiots that try too hard to look cool, or it's really is part of their daily wear, and had been for years and worn because it's a hat, so to protect from rain, snow, etc.10 tattoos, got to agree that tattoos have become very mainstream now, and hipsters aren't the only idiots getting them.9 weddings, there's always a bunch of people wanting to have the biggest attention whore wedding, making it "special"... losing the reason about what it's about in the first place.8 cycling, I used to go on a bicycle in my younger days, but things have dramatically changed since... today, the streets are filed with idiots that believe that they own the road and are a) indestructible, and b) don't have to obey traffic laws... so it's not about hipsters as much as just lots of idiots that either can't afford a car or take the bus, or doing it for "exercise, etc. reasons.7 Coffee,, meh, who isn't full of themselves when they order the three sentence long name, etc. just the usual snobs as per anything.6 music, lots of crap goes mainstream, regardless of talent, so I'll give this one my approval.5 organic food, meh, foodies have been around since the 60s.4 vintage or thrift stores, meh, that's been mainstream since the 90s when retro kicked in3 big glasses, as a fashion statement, meh, it's about looking not like an idiot, but that's your aim, then yeah, I guess it fits.2 facial hair, messy and stupid looking as a attention whore device, yup agreed, you look like an idiot.1 irony, time to look what irony means... doing something contrarily to something doesn't make it ironic, it makes you an idiot.
WinoRhino: Hipsters didn't ruin any of that stuff. If you genuinely like something, how does someone else's passing attraction to it ruin it for you?
WinoRhino: , how does someone else's passing attraction to it ruin it for you?
pivazena: Blue jeans is conspicuously absent... They started this bullshiat skinny jean trend. NOBODY LOOKS GOOD IN THAT STYLE. NOBODY
omeganuepsilon: Before long, people start not giving you even the benefit of the doubt, and you're not given a fair shake because everyone else ruined it for you.
yakmans_dad: There's no more hipster affectation than hating hipsters.
farkeruk: Look, hipsters are just a bit douchey, but ultimately, mostly harmless. Ask the kids at school who got bullied how often it was by a hipster. Same with goths and emos. And they do these stupid things like typing on typewriters and buying vinyl and act like pricks about "the corporations" or whatever. And often, they look like idiots, but so what? They ruined coffee? Look, they can be as precious about it as they like. I'll be drinking what I'm drinking. The only time I don't like hipsters is when they try and correct me about something when it's clear that their depth of knowledge extends to an article in Salon or the NYT.
omeganuepsilon: Hipsters create some of that baggage in social area's where there was none, or if there was some, they embrace it and make it worse.
