Good on him, it's easy to get caught up in the ideological frenzy and forget that these are kids and they are deserving of compassion regardless of what your political leanings are.

And if he can wake up a few derpers on the right and shame them into being human beings, more power to him.   I'm not going to hold my breath though.

Beck has stated that the Obama administration is "directly responsible" for the recent flood of illegal immigrants from Central America. And though he believes every person who crossed into the United States illegally must be sent home, Beck and the charity he founded, Mercury One, have chosen to do all they can to help ensure the refugees have basic necessities like food and water.

Hopefully he's aware of the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 which was passed by a bipartisan Congress & signed in to law by then President George W Bush. Amongst other things it grants special protection to minor children fleeing from the violence in Central America.

Glenn Beck is a weirdo.

I'd still house some of those people while they await their hearings. They're entitled to due process.

I'm not bringing them toys, and they have to go to a doctor and get deloused, but I've got a spare cabin that can sleep a half dozen people easily. Heck two more can crash in my spare room at home.

What would Admiral Ackbar say?

While I think the notion of bringing food, water, and toys to the children currently being processed is an amazingly good thing, I have to question the sincerity of his sympathy. The addition of Congressman Gohmert and Senator Lee only deepen this concern given their recent statements on diseases, schools, and linking the immigrant population as a whole to a plot by democrats to "turn Texas and america blue". This leads me to conclude that this photo op, is nothing more than an attempt to soften the image of the Tea Party and its affiliates ahead of the midterms in an attempt to salvage the caucus in both the House and the Senate at the expense of establishment republicans.

It's like the "mexian-chair people" from Bruno have now come in soap box form.

Yeah, wolf in sheep's clothing to be sure.

But look on the bright side - he's not taking Steve King.  King would be harvesting the sweet, sweet cantaloupes right off those kids' legs.

No doubt his goal is to try to repair the public image of conservatives who right now look like they're all about shiatting on children.  He's trying to get back to "won't someone think of the children" instead.

Of course he's aware of that. However, publicly recognizing that doesn't fit with his narrative, and doesn't help fleece the rubes, so he'll continue to pretend it's entirely Obama's fault.

I figured this would happen eventually. As Obama and the democrats keep moving further to the right, eventually the derpers are going to have to start enacting leftists policies just to "stick it to the libs". Yeah, that'll show 'em.

Well, to be fair, that's a big part of what being a Mormon is all about, taking care of your community and helping others. The LDS charities are huge. Like entire farms, warehouses and grain elevators huge. 'Your community' doesn't stop at the end of your street, either. I wasn't sure Beck was really a Mormon or just played that for his show, but this is more in line with what I expect from a Mormon. He can still be angry that they're here, but he's not going to lock them in the back storeroom of a warehouse. Kind of that whole 'Love the sinner, hate the sin' thing.

I agree. I usually find him obnoxious in the extreme, but he's right on the money here.

If any of y'all are interested, Catholic Charities of Fort Worth is opening a huge shelter in Fort Worth and many parishioners have agreed to take in children for the time being. I'm sure they could use some donations. Our parish priest is trying to contact some other churches in the area to see what their needs are and what we can send. Apparently the churches down there have been inundated with offers, which is nice to hear.

There's no reason we can't be happy they're helping without being suspicious of their motives.  We're talking about a man who once called the wife of a former producer and, while on the air, made fun of her recent miscarriage.  And he's bringing in a Congressman who publicly promoted the "terror baby" conspiracy theory.

It's like that old saying, "Trust everyone, but cut the cards."  Welcome them and their help with open arms, but keep them at arms length.

Poor Beck, fell for the old Trojan Horse gimmick.  Oh, look at the poor kiddies on the borders..let them in... His network will eventually convert to straight Gospel Singers and motivational speakers.  It will be called 'From my lips to Gods'.  Lots of nuts in Texas, Beck has joined them.

Sure, but he's doing something. Unless some of these people are stepping up and contributing something other than condemning people on FARK, they really have no reason to complain.

From the comments....

I don't "live by the sword". If I "die by the sword", it will be at the hands of the Progressive pols who are working hard to hand this republic over to a Progressive world government. It will be as a result of my refusing to go along with their destruction. I will not make a good slave.

It must be exhausting to be this afraid of more the 50% of your fellow citizens.

Yeah, clearly we've never had a reason to be suspicious of Beck's motives. Everything happens in a vacuum and context is completely irrelevant

These children are not illegal immigrants, or even if you prefer undocumented immigrants.

They are refugees.

Allow me to say this again. These children are refugees. Almost any other country in the world would welcome them as refugees except 'Merkuh.
