On one hand he could have been hiding the cash from the government.

On the other hand the burglar could have said it all came from one apartment to keep the burglary charges down to one event.

Uh, wait... yea, no... that's what I meant. A quarter million. Did I say 800? Not sure where that came from. He cleaned me out. Of cash, and gold. How much gold, exactly, did you say?

You keep your rupees in clay pots and this sort of shirt is bound to happen.

In fact the burglar having that from other robberies isn't all that far fetched.

A MP of a govrnment wouldn't have a reason to hide 200 k worth of stuff from the police. It isn't that much that he would have trouble explaining all of it.

2014-07-09 07:41:43 PM
I like his fellow party members trying to say that the money might not be all his.
Is that better? That he's holding a lot of money for his friends? Don't think they thought that one all the way through.

2014-07-09 07:42:43 PM
Heist would curry more interest if called out as ₹15,000,000.

So the burglar must have stole his wife too? "They" pile the gold shiat on.
/come on, you know who you are...

From TFA: "In a pre-election financial statement required of all MPs, Mr Singh had declared only a small amount of cash."

So he lied about his wealth right before an election and the tax authorities are now investigating him. That would be the reason.

A corrupt politician, now there's a novelty.

His party associates said that just because this much larger sum was found in his flat does not mean it was his.

Sounds legit.

From this statement

He made headlines during recent polls by saying that anyone who did not vote for his party leader - now PM Narendra Modi - should be expelled to Pakistan.

he sounds more like a Republican.

Headline said quarter-million and $800. Article said $190,833 and 50,000 rupees. I split the difference.

I mean, who knows exactly how much money is in the house at any given time?

If you've ever lived in India, it's "hiding the cash" - there is absolutely no doubt.

There's a thriving black money market. So if you're selling your house, the offer might be 3mil rupees in the open, plus another 12mil rupees black money.

That was only the cash part of it, and it completely belied his income tax statement. I bet the cops were kept as far from what's left of his loot, too.

Maybe. We are talking about India. If someone doesn't want you running for office they will make a criminal case against you to keep you out.

The guy in question may have lied anf may be a criminal. The police could also be railroading him. Its India. News articles are fairly useless in determining guilt or innocence.
