First thought: "Again?" and click on the link to see the picture of the 1:1 statue they already made.

Second: "featured intergalactic battles" Um, no- 'intergalactic' means 'between galaxies', and Gundam has in ALL of its iterations including even the worst of the spin-offs taken place in the Solar System, usually within the Earth Sphere. That's part of what made Gundam work so well- it was fanciful but not SO far out there as to assume things such as FTL and the likes. It was easy to think that such things as the colonies and Mobile Suits could someday happen as derivatives of what we have (or even had 30 years ago) tech-wise, and they tried in many cases to be reasonable about things like physics (0083 using it especially well with the whole Operation Stardust relying on gravity slings).

Will be rather cool if they are able to make one that is capable of moving realistically, but I'm not holding my breath for them actually making it fully mobile- Robotics:Notes didn't have things too far off regarding scaling the actuators to giant robot size...

"The 'Mobile Suit Gundam' anime series first aired in Japan in 1979, and spin-offs featuring robots locked in intergalactic battles have won legions of enthusiastic fans in Asia, Europe and elsewhere."

That's right, your meager Gundam series didn't win legions of entusiastic fans.  How could it, limited to a single solar system?  It was only the unnamed spinoffs that won legions of enthusiastic fans.

What does that mean?  If by "realistically" you mean "moving like a giant Gundam replica", it will move like that by definition, because it will be one.  If by "realistically" you mean "moving like it does in a fictional anime", then no.

Drones are far more efficient weapons of war.  Mechwarrior never seemed to make sense, a mech seems like a huge target for multiple smaller platforms.

They should focus on Battletech stuff for the real thing, not GUNDAM. The Scout class light mechs could be made today using existing hardware and software.

I'm pretty sure the idea is just to get that 1:1 statue moving. It was already jointed and covered in access panels when it was built. Less a statue and more a shell.

First...its giant mechs...so I don't really care... but second...the instance where it made the most logical sense was Macross...building large humanoid mechs to fight giant humanoid aliens.

You gotta remember that in the Gundam Universe is the Minovsky Particle which makes radar and things like that useless, so drones are a no-go.

I'm gonna get back to watching Knights of Sidonia on Netflix.  Starting Episode 10, giving the series a 7/10 rating, good story, but the animation uses really dull colors and looks a bit bland.  Mainly watching it in hopes that Netfilx will pick up some good anime, or at least some guilty pleasure anime like Inuyasha.

Wake me up when Japan builds a Super Galaxy Gurrenn Lagann, a mech so big and implausible it literally smashed two galaxies together and threw them at anti-existence.

Not that I'd ever be able to comprehend such a thing outside of anime cartoons, (because something so large would take lifetimes to "see" it's movements) but GET ON IT JAPAN.

I remain steadfast in my belief that G Gundam is the pinnacle of the series because it was the only one with a fun premise that embraced the inherently silly nature of giant robot fighting.

Patlabor is pretty solid, and it would be totally canon to build one out of pickup truck parts and scrap steel.

I'd settle for at least Gao Gai Gar.  By the time FINAL came along, the series was almost as awesomely awesome as Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagann.
