Huh. That's actually a great point. Why the hell don't we celebrate the Moon landing every freaking year? For millenia we dreamed of going there... the whole world watched when we finally did... shouldn't it be an international observance or even holiday? Talk about an event that deserves fireworks!

I was in second grade, and had assembled an Apollo Lunar Module model for class a couple of weeks before.

I remember staying up late with my family, watching the moon walk.

// Some of my younger friends are jealous because they were to young to remember anything.

The moon landings were faked.

Of course, they were filmed on the moon; we've had a base up there since the 50s.  It's just, you know, those supposed "first steps" were done 14 years before Armstrong did it.

You haven't seen the base because it's on the far side.

All other Apollo missions up to 45 have been black-op missions designed to install breeding plants on the moon where the new world order produces it's clone armies. The entire operation was being overseen by Bizarro Superman, so all the clones basically turned out passive. Last I heard the clone army was too busy making a giant quilt to notice their own liquidation.

Tragic really...

So do I. I was still a little kid and my TV watching spot was actually laying under the coffee table, my sister, mom and dad hogged up the couch but I had a good spot to lay down with a pillow and blanket and watch TV and because it was one of those console ones I was pretty much at the same level as the screen.

Nice but it doesn't really stack up to Bart Sibrel is getting popped in the grill. If someone would set up a Kickstarter for all the remaining Apollo astronauts to tazer that douche in the nuts I'd be willing to contribute a substantial amount of money.

"From now on, we live in a world where man has set foot on the moon. And it wasn't a miracle, we just decided to go." - Apollo 13

In less than 8 years, we went from talking about sending a man to the moon and back again, to actually sending a man to the moon and back again. By contrast, we spent almost a decade deciding what we should do with Ground Zero after September 11th. In less than 50 years, we went from flying to the moon to barking at it.

If today's GOP had existed during the Space Race, we would've given up after Apollo 1, or if we did press on, we'd be lucky to get there by the time the Berlin Wall fell, and after landing, the astronauts would stand there idly, saying "Okay, now what?"

From Wiki:

Aldrin punched Sibrel in the jaw, which was recorded. Sibrel later attempted to use the tape to convince police and prosecutors that he was the victim of an assault. However, it was decided that Aldrin had been provoked, and, based on Sibrel's unfazed, nearly instant reaction to his cameraman, did not actually injure Sibrel, so no charges were filed.

Full. of. win.

In all fairness, it's easier to get consensus around going to the moon than emotional things like a memorial/commercial structure. I mean, there are a hundredy-billion options to pick from on which way to go with Ground Zero land. There's only one decision involving the moon: go, or no-go. And that gets even easier when it involves competition with an outsider deemed to be a serious threat.

You young'uns, don't know anything about history:

My father was with NASA at the MSFN tracking station in Madrid, Spain during Apollo 11, had to stay there the entire mission.

Saw four.

Apollo 8-Front yard of my house in Winter Park (40 miles due west)
Apollo 9-Parade Ground-Orlando Naval Training Center (40 miles due west)
Apollo 10-Ponce Inlet, New Smyrna Beach (36 miles due north)

and the above Apollo 11. (6 miles WSW)

For the first 2, watched the first 15 seconds on TV, then it broke the horizon. The sound was the longest running thunder you ever heard.

For #3-we could barely see the ignition on the horizon, but followed the trajectory out to sea.

Is there more than one video>? The only ones I'm finding just slow down the punch itself(Which happens behind a sign) and plays that part a few times. You see him get nailed, but not a 'look to his cameraman', but the guy with the boom mic looks amazingly bored by the whole thing, and not at all like someone who just saw thier boss/buddy/coworker get punched by someone he had been taunting.
