Hmmm, first the Cure and now this.

Seems we have a 50 year old mod wearing too much eyeliner and hot topic clothes greenlighting this morning.

My son's favorite band.  He's 18 and is in love with Siouxsie Sioux.  It is so strange to me that goth is alive and well (well, as alive and well as a goth can be) with the younger set.

There are more than a few aging Gen X-ers who will part with some cash for this. Myself being one of them.

What am I not getting with this band? I have only heard a few songs and it didn't really appeal to me. Is this a hipster band from years ago?

Oh, baby, look at you. Don't you look like Siouxsie Sioux How long'd it take to get that way? What a terrible waste of energy.

I only like about 50% of their songs, but the ones I like I think are really good.  Cities in Dust is probably my favorite song by them.  Happy House and Sick Child are also good.

stupiddream: He's 18 and is in love with Siouxsie Sioux

she remained extremely alluring well beyond her "sell by" date.  she did an interview in MOJO or Uncut 3-4 years ago and the attached photospread was just, HELL YES.  and then just last year she did some one-off show at thte Royal Albert Hall, i believe, and she was still getting it done.

musically she never really did it for me outsdie a few songs here and there but i think she's cool as fark.

You obviously have no idea how much they've influenced everything from goth rock to alternative to punk, etc. That or you're trolling, not sure which.

The queen of goth & at 57 still as fit as a butcher's dog.
I was miffed when those f*cktards at Universal stopped the re-issues, however, these last 4 albums aren't really that great (except Superstition, which is passable I suppose)

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: Jesus, how many albums did they have?

11 studio & 3 live

That look, other than the wrist spikes, was created by beatnik chicks in the 50s and 60s. I would give Nico and Debbie Harry more credit and all the scenester hipster chicks of the times.

Nope, I'm not 12 nor am I trolling.  I always thought they sucked and I say this having grown up with that kind of shiat - and her fans smell.  Seriously, they make Phish tour heads seem clean.

Oh, she "influenced" "goth rock" and "alternative" and "punk"?  Who the fark cares?  Did she influence it for the better?  I can't say, but all those genres suck.

You're not wrong, but I'd say that Siouxsie synthesized those formative influences into her look (which
actually predates Debbie Harry by at least a bit, and Ms Harry's look was more the result of parallel
evolution), and that synthesis stuck when the goth subculture really took hold in the late 70s through
to the present day.

She was the soundtrack for morally ambiguous eurotrash chicks when I was overseas in the early 80s. So she's better than pretty OK in my book.

And her live cover of ' Helter Skelter' may be the most punk rock thing ever.

1. Hot Topic has nothing to do with goth.

2. The original goth née  postpunk look was based on 1920s/1930s film makeup and style, primarily. Siouxsie's style was very influential, but she was one of many during that period.

3. Siouxsie & the Banshees always rocked.

The only thing that would make this news better would be if they announced that Robert Smith was rejoining the Banshees for these last two albums.

So... she's wearing makeup?

www.bobgruen.com

She wasn't exactly a goth or punk icon in 1974.   Aside from the fact that no one knew who the hell she was, hot pants and stilletos aren't exactly blazing the trail for goth fashion.  She was a remarkable and brave woman, and   I'll fully give her a lot of credit for a lot of things, but setting the tone for goth was not one of them.     Meanwhile, everyone in the Pistols inspired London punk scene in the mid-late 70s will fully attest to the fact that Siouxsie had her own sense of fashion even within the scene, and that look would eventually become known as the prototype for goth.

So the prototype for goth isn't setting the tone for goth then?

I knew of them at the time, but I wasn't really into them. I've only recently been discovering they've got a lot of good stuff in their catalog. I might actually invest in this.

I just want to say, Through the Looking Glass is probably the best example of an all-covers album I've ever heard. Also, it introduced me to the genius of Sparks.

cool.

/ saw her about 8 years ago.  she is an awesome performer, one of my favorite concerts in life.  of course, my other favorite was peter murphy.
// went as robert smith while my wife went as siouxsie for halloween last year.  it was a successful set of costumes.  though, it was funny that robert smith was in town that halloween for a festival.

Just check out the section on whom she has influenced in her wiki entry.  Siouxsie's reach has been far and wide.  I saw her play in '88 while touring for the Peepshow album.  It's still the best show I've ever seen.
