Yeah, but it was only a 40% chance of scattered eye damage.

Rexroth, 48, was vacationing with his family when the accident occurred Friday night, and further details of the circumstances weren't immediately available Monday morning.

Yeah, you could at least tell us if he was lighting them off himself or at a municipal display... Considering some of the morons I've seen lighting fireworks and the number of big fireworks go off about 10' in the air over the years, either one is plausible. Nothing makes you look for the ambulance to come running than a firework at the city display that has the launch 'boom' and the display 'boom' happen almost simultaneously...

Used to watch them in Bisbee, AZ every year. They light them on top of on of the tailings piles from the mine. about 1 in every 10 would fizzle on launch and then start bouncing down the hill towards either the people ofr the old turn of the century mansions before exploding, we were pretty much taking bets on which house was gonna go up in flames on any given year...

It is actually "7 Action News".   We haven't had "Eyewitness News" here in Detroit since Channel 2 was a CBS affiliate in the 80s.

Well, I'd suggest shooting range goggles, but I don't know how they react to sparks. But I'd want more impact resistance than common lab goggles. But I know there has to be a good choice for playing around with roman candles while shooting at each other.

Then somebody's using the wrong size mortar tubes.  Nothing burns down a cornfield quite like a 3" shell in a 4" tube.   Except maybe a 5" shell in a 6" tube....

It's an easy mistake to make, too.  On the crews I shot with, we put our 3" tubes in the same bunkers with our 5" tubes and our 4" tubes in the same bunker with our 6" tubes.  That way you had a 2" differential to play with.

Or for a $10k show, shoot 3's exclusively and end with a few finale cakes and a battery of 8" shells.

Well, it IS a pretty happy little drunk town... Awesome place to spend a weekend and bar-hop. Added some adventure to the fireworks show, too.

Is that also what causes the other  ones I mentioned that launch 10-20 feet or so and go off? Those are obviously not meant for a ground effect. :-)

That would be so fun, especially planning out the show, but lighting things that go 'boom' in a spectacular manner would be fun, too.

I went to a show at a relatives church probably 15 years ago now. They were hand-firing with road flares. I saw at least two premature in the tubes (they weren't using metal tubes, thank god) and one go off head high. I was surprised the crew survived, then I realized they were wearing turnout gear and full-face motor cycle helmets. We left early.

Oh, wait. They are banned in Iowa, unless he stuck a sparkler or snake in his eye.

Well, they're legal in Michigan (recently) and Indiana (for a while) at least, so he probably picked some up on the way to Iowa (assuming he drove).

Yeah, I didn't think news reporting could get any worse than a few years back, but now they might as well have animatronics giving the news...

Hell, a couple of weeks ago, we were coming home from dinner, and the road we were driving on suddenly had police cars all over it, cars up the freeway ramp, the first intersection from the freeway blocked off, at least two lanes approaching the on-ramp closed down. There were easily 15 cop cars all lit up(Not counting any I missed in the dark who didn't have their lights on). Huge farking 3-ring circus and not a peep in the news. Hell, 2 years ago, one of the skydivers that flies into our town's pre-4th of July festivities went down below the treeline, trailing what looked to be an un-deployed chute. THAT took me a farking year to dig up, not one news agency felt the need to tell us that the guy lived, finally turned out that enough people asked about it on some skydiving board and one of the guys that was there piped up to let us know that he was fine and his reserve deployed in time.

But they'll sure as shiat tell me what the latest "viral" video is...

I read that as animaniacs and thought that would be pretty damn cool lol.

The news up here in canucklestan seems to be alright still,  they never check to see what twitter thinks about anything and the only time a viral video might make it on is if it's during the last few minutes of the Sunday night news.
