Trust me. Anybody in the Chicagoland area that felt like lighting sticks of dynamite off until the wee hours in the morning were apparently able to buy as many sticks as they liked.

I see those stringent gun laws are working well.

Wonder if the Obamas will move back there in 2017?

Obviously Chicago needs more gun control laws. This would clearly solve all these problems. Maybe after Obama's presidency is over, he will run for mayor and clean this place up.

If they legalized MJ in Illinois, maybe the jails in Cook County wouldn't be so overcrowded that they routinely let felons charged with violent crimes* and others charged with gun violence off with ridiculously light sentences.

*yes I mean repeat offenders

I spent the weekend there.

Didn't hear a single shot.

Boring.

Most of the gun violence here in Chicago is gang on gang violence. In that regard, no farks are given by me. I frankly don't care when a gangster kills another gangster. What's sad is when innocents are hit by stray bullets. The solution is that we need to train gangsters some farking marksmenship. After that, the gang problem will eventually solve itself.

Giltric: http://dailycaller.com/2014/07/06/veteran-with-concealed-carry-permit - shoots-back-at-chicago-gunman/

I wonder if this incident was counted.

Of course it was.  Twice.  The shooter firing at the victim was one.  The victim daring to defend himself by shooting back was probably another.  CNN statistics.  Won't hear the media report about the self-defense shooting though.  Doesn't fit the narrative.

I dont know if allowing fireworks would decrease the shootings.  I was about to shoot someone when the person that lives 1/8th mile down the road was shooting off large mortors from 10-11 on the 4th and even more so when the guy that live the other way 1/4 of a mile away did the same thing from 11-12.....

farkers....this may be a ruralish area but jebus have some respect for your neighbors.

Chicago is a TERRIBLE place.  Our Youth Group went there several years ago.  First of all, there is no place to park anywhere.  If there is, they want you to pay?!  We ended up riding a train through the really dangerous area around Wrigley Field.  I was praying for the Lord's protection the whole time.

Second, we were told that the pizza was good, but it took like 45 minutes to come out at Uno's.  Where I'm from, Domino's delivers in 30 minutes or less.  I knew we should have gone to The Cheesecake Factory.

Finally, there were a lot of urban people all over the place.  Not wanting to be another victim of the epidemic of The Knockout Game, I crossed the street every time I saw an urban person.  I was zig-zagging up and down Michigan Avenue.  These urban people made me walk right past the Water Tower, which BTW was supposed to have a mall, but just looked like some old building to me.

I'm never going to that dump again.  Nobody goes there anyway.  It's so crowded and expensive.

Does the 60 shot include all 11 killed or were those counted separately? Just curious...

Chicago might be better off if the residents were shipped far, far away, the entire place burned, bulldozed, salted, and covered with a mountain of dirt, then trees planted, and the residents may return in 100 years, bearing only the technology of the 18th century. Sure they would still fark it up, it would just take them a few hundred years, like last time.

Final tally was 84, 14 fatal. The fatal count as part of the overall.

I suppose if you're an urban person, it doesn't seem bad.  I've seen Good Times so I know what Chicago is like.

Seriously?  Are we talking January through July compared to all twelve months in previous years?

I fully realize the sarcasm: but you can't defend the $50-60/night parking rate in Chicago.

Lets be honest, although this feels vaguely racist, the vast majority of these shootings are in a narrow ethnic group.

Primarily gang on gang violence.

Nothing new here. Anyone who lives in Chicago, especially the south and west sides, pretty much knows that the murder rate and shooting rates skyrocket once summertime hits. Still not as bad as the insanity of 2012, when the winter ended early and the murder rate got an early start.

Instead they shipped many of the former Cabrini residents them to Elgin, Rockford, Freeport and Peoria. Clearly not far enough.

That would be very stupid and misleading.. so probably.  Then again the person talking was trying to make it sound like a problem, so maybe not.

This.  There's a reason it's an actual story when some stray catches an honor student in the head, but the rest of the shootings get tallied up and reported on collectively.

I don't believe that money is actually going to the NRA. Last time it was 400K to the SAF. There is another ~600K or so that ought to be paid out for the litigation around the ban on gun stores as well.
