The unexpected thing they need to do is move the largest events over to the baseball stadium.  It would be nice if ticket-holders could actually see one of events without having to camp out overnight.  Last year I waited anywhere from 4-6 hours for several events and couldn't get in to see anything.  They've simply sold too many tickets for the spaces they have available.  If you add up the seating in all of the venues combined it feels like there's 5 people for every chair.

- Implement a ticket selling system that actually works?
- Expand to a new location that can actually handle the number of people who would like to attend?  (Baseball stadium across the street?  New city?)
- Allow people to pre-book for which seminars they'd like to attend?
- Empty the rooms between sessions to keep people from crowding up the room hours in advance of a "popular" seminars?
- Stop being such pussies in regards to Coplayers with obviously fake weapons?
- Comics?  What are those?

I stopped going to Comicon for various reasons:
1) ticket prices are ruled by supply and demand, I'm afraid.
2) I think they are working on that part. Apparently last year they put some of the events in the surrounding hotels. The organizers are threatening to ship the convention to Anaheim.
3) I would use that for specialty events like A popular show. Or famous speaker.
4) they definitely need to clear out the room. Sucks if you want to see two things that are in the same room, but I think you have to make choices.
5) I know nothing about cosplay issue.
6) the saddest thing about Comicon was that the comics ended of it was practically empty. People aren't there for the comics. Superheroes/magna are the genre of films and TV series.

you almost end up needing to get the audio book to find it enjoyable, and then it becomes a really long album, which is fine.

Been going since 1989, when it was in the old convention center. Haven't missed one since, will be at this year's. You could walk up and buy a day pass - without a line - for just a few bucks. The Art Show, comics booths and almost everything but the gaming (which was at the time D+D and variants thereof) and movie showings, on real film with a projector. Picked up a few comics that are classics now, sold some and bought a car with the money in the late 90's. Mylar and acid-free cardboard are your friends.

Them was the days.

The REAL Comic-Con in San Diego was last held in 1992. The events that took place ever since have been more anti-fan and pro-Hollywood producer.

Hell. I'd be happy if they didn't stop right in the middle of walking and stand there so that everyone can bump into them. So many times there I just wanted to go upside their head and yell "WTF YOU DOING STOPPING LIKE THAT? DO YOU DO SH*T THAT ON THE F*CKING FREEWAY? JUST HIT THE BRAKES AND IDLE IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSHING TRAFFIC?

Have never been to SDCC - would like to in theory - but what you describe is what makes me never bother to really try to get tickets.  If I was 18, and went with 5-6 friends, it might be worthwhile, but not now.  Not paying hundreds of dollars to effectively see one thing a day.

I'll stick with Phoenix Comicon - have gotten to talk to John Barrowman (wow, he's tiny...and hilarious), Nathan Fillion (nice dude), and Dina Meyer (Holy Genetic Lottery Winner, Batman, that woman is beyond gorgeous!), and my son got his picture taken with George Takei (oh my).

This. I went to ComicCon a decade ago when it was still possible to walk up and buy a single day pass. But that was about the time when the movie-centric-ness of it really started to take off. There was a big display of the last Star Wars prequel taking up a lot of space. Never been back since.

They should rename it something like Mega-Con, or Entertainment-Con, or Movie-Con, or Geeky-Con, or *anything* other than Comic-Con.  I'm not fuming any nerd rage over it, but it is a bit perplexing as to why it retains the name but offers little to no comics.

And changing the name wouldn't affect the attendance in any way whatsoever.  It's basically a juggernaut now, and nothing's gonna slow it down.

I lived in SD in late 80s-early 90s and was a member when it was a comic book convention.  I don't know if any of you went to these shows before it exploded, but they was farking fantastic.  Hundreds of comic and memorabilia dealers with booths, and you could see it all in one day (pretty much).

SDCC is a trade show that's been stapled onto a nerd event. Eventually the nerds might even notice. But probably not object. Because we nerds are pretty much whores.
