The flag is being displayed....its already patriotic.

My money is on self loathing types who hate their own country but since it was returned and didnt seem to have been set on fire I am probably wrong.

And what sucks about this story is that the thief said "Sorry, I didn't know"
As if it would have been ok to steal from a regular Joe Schmo, but not from someone who lost someone on 9/11

"I'm so sorry, I had no idea."

/How about getting the idea that shiat that doesn't belong to you has the right to stay right were it is? Just because this one item held more emotional attachment for the owner than all the other property you've stolen doesn't mean it's still not theft. Stop stealing peoples stuff asshole. You are hurting them no matter what you take.

When good games of Capture the Flag go horribly wrong. Seriously, my money is on some dumbass teenage prankster kid whose conscience eventually told him that doing the right thing was more important than impressing his dumbass teenage prankster friends. At least I hope it was some dumbass teenage prankster kid; I'd hate to think an adult is going around stealing flags off people's porches.

Going on probabilities, it was most likely made in China. Like all the fireworks you set off the other day.

Does that make it any less patriotic?

I used to steal those absurdly over-sized American flags that you find flying over (e.g.) car dealerships, when I was 15 or so. Probably "collected" more than a couple dozen. The weird part is that, for the life of me, I cannot remember what the I did with all of them. Or any of them. Seems like I should remember what I did with an object that had about the same square footage as a basketball court.

But...nope.

While you may not agree that those overseas are fighting for a worthy cause, it is really ignorant to deny their courage. How would you feel rushing a column of Uparmored HMMWV-s and MRAPS with nothing but an AK-47?

I did it a couple of times at my local cop shop. Gave them all to other people. It was my was my stupid way of being "Edgy" and "Rebellious" at the time (easily over 35 years ago). It was dumb but the challenge was more about getting it off of the pole than it was to keep the flags. Teenagers don't always think that far ahead.

Keeping score just this week alone, God cares about: specific birth control you use, stealing flags from 9/11 victims families.

But not: starving children in Ethiopia, you winning the lottery.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was the game for me to, which is why I don't remember where I stashed them.

But...God knows. I did some pretty random shiat. The flags were just about the least of it.

Same type of person who stole the incredibly tacky snowman decorations out of our yard at Christmas. I thought about writing them a thank you note, since the only reason I had them up was because my mother-in-law insisted upon it every year. They also stole our neighbor's Confederacy flag, so we kind of like these kleptos.

When I lived in SC, a kid I hung out with stoled a basketball off my front porch (we weren't friends after that), and someone stoled an American flag from my yard on July 4th.  The last time I went to Detroit for a Tigers game, I accidentally left my truck unlocked with the windows open, nothing was touched.

/Okay, I parked in a parking structure, but still impressive.
//I still can't believe my dumb luck on that day.
