67.5% proof is not accurate.  If it is 67.5% alcohol by volume, it is 135 proof.  There is not a percentage in "proof".

How does it taste?

AverageAmericanGuy: How does it taste?

Wondering the same thing. I'm going to assume the answer is "completely unpalatable," but this will be countered with accusations of anyone not liking it having an unrefined sense of taste or some other macho BS. If I want to get completely ripped after a single bottle of beer, I'll start off with a few shots of hard liquor and actually enjoy both beverages.

That said, I'd give it a try... if someone else was paying.

freeze-concentrated to boost its alcohol content.

About 6x concentration beer flavor (assuming it's 67 proof, not 67% EtOH). Yeah, that might actually be tasty.

Like snake venom.

Beer Advocate has it at 67.5% ABV, and describes it as a barleywine with no carbonation and a strong hop profile.

I'm impressed (and repulsed). I wouldn't have guessed you could get that high with freeze concentration.

If anyone from the UK advises moderation when drinking an alcoholic beverage, we best take heed...

I think the strongest beer I've had was a Sam Adams Utopia which weighed in at 29 percent ABV and at that strength its beer properties were being overshadowed and the "beer" was entering cognac territory.

I'm glad someone bought me a taste of it (at a Fark Party of all places) and it was really quite good but I like my beers too at least remain drinkable.  I even find most barleywines too boozy.  It gets to a certain point where like the "hot sauce" wars, it no longer has anything to do with the pleasures of what makes beer (or spice) great.

Are there not rules for beer? Like bourbon has to be no more than 160 proof, so much grain, etc.

These super strong beers should be called something else.

Who cares?  It isn't for drinking, it's for bragging.

The rule is that the more alcohol, and the more funky words in the name, the bigger your penis.

So, it's the equivalent of 12 or so cheap 5% beers -- half a case in one bottle, for the price of maybe five cases.

Lousy GYD (Gets You Drunk quotient, volume * concentration / price), but could be useful. "Yeah, Doc, I've cut back -- I usually have one beer at dinner, and another in the evening."

2014-07-06 04:46:02 PM
Like others have said this is just a beer for bragging rights and to make one feel adequate.

Some high gravity beers are really goods. Others not so much. My suggestion is to try as many different beers as possible and find ones you like. I'd make suggestions, but you've probably never heard of them.

I just take a Miller Light and poor in a shot of bottom shelf vodka and call it a day, If I wanted something that tasted good, I'd get a milkshake.

What they mean is they can prove 67.5% of what they claim on the label. The rest is unicorn farts and angel jizz.

That was my first thought as well.  I'm actually surprised that wasn't the Boobies.

/ It's not filter pwnage if you know it's going to happen.

that's not beer.  it's Liquor.

hell, pour some Everclear into your beer if you want 'strong' beer.  it'll be alot cheaper.

If you're not supposed to drink the whole bottle they might consider a cork or screw top so you can actually close it up if you don't finish it.

The demographic that would actually buy that beer don't put caps back on bottles.

I don't know what angel jizz is, but I recently learned that unicorns do, in fact, fart rainbows. Their horns are prismatic and connected to their asses with fiber optic nerves. Sun goes in the horn, rainbows come out the back.

Snake Venom is not like other beers, in that it is distilled using a freeze concentration method and therefore isn't a beer at all.

One of the farkers I met brews his own high ABV beer, think it was around 20% and I almost threw up, can't imagine something that bitter and nasty.

Probably tastes like other "fortified" beers, like this:

Back when I drank I drank this stuff because it was strong (7.5%) and only cost $5 a 12 pack.

I always think of the "bitter beer face" comercials when I hear about realy strong or stout beers.

it's no bud ice, that's for sure! ;-)

jfarkinB: So, it's the equivalent of 12 or so cheap 5% beers

yeas... you can do that kinda 'math' with scotch, too, but it doesn't make it any more true. I'll bet that the buzz from a case of beer, and the buzz from this one bottle would be pretty effing different, mate.

odinsposse: If you're not supposed to drink the whole bottle they might consider a cork or screw top so you can actually close it up if you don't finish it.

I'm not 100% on this, but there's probably some EU law regarding this, but it was my first thought too - why the eff would they use a standard bottlecap for this?

Kibbler: "Hey dude!  I bet you can't afford to buy one of these, and even if you could, you're not man enough to drink it!"

Well, hold my beer and watch THIS!! (I really wish for the upandcoming Youtube Nekomination vid to get the FOLLOWUP tag here, cos it'll be EPIC hillaryass)

/if I could get it imported to Sweden, I'd be tempted to get a bottle, just to entertain the lot of you.
//maybe If I wire the money to a friend in Glasgow... on second thought nah, he'd prolly just drink it on the way to work.

Well, here in soviet sweden....

www.galatea.se

Yes, 10.2% ABV. 20Kr ($3) a can in System Bolaget. It doesn't even taste that bad chilled to 4C (regular fridge temp) I buy it for my MDMA/coke/speed comedowns.

NBSV: Some high gravity beers are really goods. Others not so much.

Yup. I've been on a run of good luck with the high-gravity beers lately, but tonight I broke the streak. I've got a bottle of Atwater Brewery Teufel in front of me, 10.9% ABV. It's got some bitter, and that's about it. About as much personality as Bud Light.

I once got to split a bottle of Brewdog's high ABV, Sink the Bismarck, with a good friend.  It was surprisingly tasty, but nothing like regular beer.  In terms of taste, it was a very strong barleywine front with a whiskey back.  Now, I like barleywine and straight whiskey, so it was no problem for me, but it was a damn strong drink.
