Someone resubmit this with a better headline. With ISIS issuing passports from Maliki's ID office gives me the image of a cartoon character with two heads arguing with themselves.

They already know that Bush II made that unlikely to happen. Who wants to get involved in yet another cluster f*ck, in that country? Any middle eastern country? Nope, they've got that area for a decade or so yet, and they know it.

I think that's a valid point, but the way Obama is going, we may have a limited engagement at the very least. I think if things keep going the way they are, the UN may also step in, they could send some very strongly worded letters, cause you know words can really hurt.

I'm thinking that this next series of attacks would be more pressing a series of buttons than feet on the ground. And the key here is this time you got a lot more countries wanting to put in their say.

Also, I wanna see a copyright lawsuit from the Archer people.

Let them grind this out by themselves.  ISIS is a magnet for all crazy Sunnis.  They up against: Assad, the Shia, the Iranians, Hezbollah, etc.  None of these people are our friends.  If they want to kill one another, why should we care?

Because they will. kill a lot of innocent people, set progess backward in that part of the world a few dozen centuries, ignore political and social borders, impose a despotic and illegal political system on other more modern, developed countries, attempt to spread the crazy to the far east/Europe/Russia and breed another generation of terrorists that have absolutely no chance of being reasonable with the rest of the world.  Oh wait, we won't because we totally, illogically, pathologically addicted to the idea that we are done in that part of the world and all is well.  (at least according to the powers that are currently talking through the mic, that is,)

Yeah,

The problem with ISIS is that they really, REALLY don't understand realpolitik.  They've managed to get the US and Russia (and the rest of the 5 powers) against them.  Nobody is going to stop a UNSC resolution against them once they go too far.  They've managed to get enough of the world cheesed off at them, including other Islamic nations, that they're going to get stomped from outside if Iraq and Syria don't handle it themselves.

They've proudly put on their social media channels videos of what are unquestionably war crimes (massacring surrendering enemy soldiers, among other acts).  They've outright said they basically don't recognize the sovereignty of any other Islamic state, believing that all Muslims must obey them and they supercede any other government over any Muslim.  They reject the entire model of Westphalian sovereignty, dividing the world into their "Caliphate", Islamic lands that either have yet to be annexed or are rebelling against them, and Infidel lands, and that's it.

It's like they're trying to build an Empire in the 1500's, but don't realize that world politics in the 21st century isn't the same as the 16th.

How is all that substantially different from a dozen other places with despotic rulers and/or human rights violations?  Why should we be illogically and pathologically addicted to the idea that we have to single handily police the world and specifically the middle east despite our already demonstrated total inability to do so?

The major players in this, will not allow ISIS to exist.  All the loons in ISIS will be liquidated, and this is not a bad thing.  Best of all, we don't have to get involved.  Yes, there's going to be ethnic and sectarian cleansing, but, this is the only way this problem is going to be resolved for the long term.  The whole area has been like a coiled spring for a long time.  Some of that tension is now being released.

Strangely familiar. Was it ISIS or someone else who recently took over another county by deadly intimidation and issued new passports. Most likely the same planners: capture weapons. claim territory. Boy, I'll bet the Syrian government is laughing at being pranked by both ISIS and the Russians.
