I can't understand this. Chicago has a Democratic mayor, is in a state with a Democratic governor and legislature and is in a country with a Democratic president, who is favorite son. It meets the criteria of fark utopia by those standards.

To propose that people can be entirely summed up by a single label (republican/Democrat) and that will make a utopia, even if facetiously, you don't grasp the problem.

How many have died in Chicago since Trayvon martin killing? I don't see any outrage to that, I guess Al sharp and Jesse support killing of innocent people.

I'm really glad I don't live there anymore.  After we left in 2001, I never thought there would come a time when I didn't have even a mild longing to move back or visit, but said time has come.  There's always been crime in Chicago, hell....Al Capone put the city on the map in the 1920s, but I don't ever remember it being this bad, and neither can my parents.  I've been asking friends of mine still living there to put some serious consideration into getting the hell out.

Three dead and 28 injured over a holiday weekend with the cover of fireworks for gunshots along with good weather? This is a result of terrible gun control. Just look at that miss rate due to poor aim.

But only 3 dead and 28 injured? Isn't that like a reason for celebration in Chicago over a holiday weekend?

The thing to remember about these numbers is that most of the gunshot trauma centers in Chicago have closed. So, they load the serious ones in an ambulance and send them to the nearest suburb with one. Victim dies on the highway or in the suburb, it doesn't "count" for Chicago.

Your parents can't remember the early '90s? Chicago topped 900 murders three times in four years between 1991 and 1994. There were 415 murders last year, lowest total in 50 years. Technically, they shouldn't remember it being this good.

Those are outdated numbers. The Tribune reports more than fifty shot over the weekend so far, and it doesn't say if that includes the five shot, at least two fatally, by Chicago Police.

Guess you didn't live in Chicago in the 90's. There were twice as many murders every year from 90-95. In fact every year in the 90's there were almost 2x the murders than there were last year. In fact last year Chicago was almost at 1920's numbers in murders, which was the 4th lowest total for a year since 1965. But you wouldn't know that since our president claims Chicago as his home town so the Right has to make Chicago out like it is the murder capital of the world, and people like you swallow it all up and act like it is the scariest place to be.

They're not illegal anymore. We only have first quarter stats to judge the effect of legal gun ownership on crime, so it's a bit early yet to make any call. (Some stats are better, but hey, it's just one quarter)

On the one hand, crime in Chicago is a real problem although not nearly as bad as it used to be. On the other hand, Chicago's rep makes gullible right-wingers think Chicago is a hell hole that they need to flee from. It makes it very difficult to decide which way to troll.
