Nothing.

I just like the music.

Short time as a band, but one of the most important post-punk bands that existed.

Their sound still gets ripped off constantly by indie bands.

I time traveled back to 1984 to see if anyone there I would be interested in this story either.

Nope.

Call me, Liebchen.

I'm not usually a fan of bands trying to relive their former glory, but PH&TL rock the house. On "Unknown Pleasures Live in Australia" they absolutely shred "Shadowplay".

They're going to be doing "Low Life" and "Brotherhood" in the fall. I can't wait to hear "Sunrise" live.

It's not a bad song but it definitely foreshadows the more accessible direction they'd take after Curtis' death with New Order. It's strange that the song that most people associate with the band sounds nothing like the rest of their material.

Don't mention post-punk. I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it all right

Joy Division was below my radar at the time, so I'm glad for the opportunity to be shocked by the death of someone associated with that group.

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: JoieD'Zen: That whiny ballad is overplayed and grating.

Does it tear you apart?

Does it make you dance, dance, dance, dance, dance to the radio?

/see, that was my favorite Joy Division song

And how!  There's actually a whole subgenre that basically amounts to people ripping off Joy Division.

Half of whom have probably never even heard Joy Division, and are instead slavishly imitating each other.

not totally CSB:

I timed a trip to NYC to see them and was visiting the New York Rocker office when the editor got a call about Ian. Still a good week (saw Johnny Thunders & Wayne Kramer, OMD, Sun Ra, and Henry Kaiser), but that part sucked balls.

OMD & Sun Ra?  Talk about going from one extreme to the other.  Your taste in music is very eclectic.

Watched the cover and the original.  One in French and one in English.  Could not understand the words in either.  That being said, this is good while the original blows.

If memory serves me correctly (and, granted, that's not a given at this point) Sun Ra and Johnny Thunder were the same night. Sun Ra was playing an outdoor show at one of the piers that was cut a bit short by some rain, and then we headed downtown for the Thunders gig. He only fell down once.

I don't think being female and having dated Ian Curtis is something to be proud of

The Swans cover of this song is way better than the original.  There, I said it.

Damned careless typing/proofreadin. Could've been worse, could've typed "Son Rah" I guess. But still...

Hook's anecdote about Ian trying to get a free book out of William Burroughs was my favorite thing on the Joy Division documentary DVD. I think it's in the extras. Has anyone read Hook's book that came out a year or two ago? I had hoped it would pop up in the library but I reckon I'll have to order myself a copy.

I read it a couple months ago. It's okay. Ironically enough, Hook still can't aviod coming off as an asshole, no matter how much he tried. There's also some selective memory and borrowed anecdotes.
He biatches about the resurgeance of interest in Joy Division, while still trying to profit from it himself.
