These eyebrows have been brought to you by The Office Depot.

Given that this is most likely made up whole cloth, if you if money in your account that's not yours the owner will find it and want it back

From TFA: "Hutchings says she was out when two men from the council eventually arrived at her mother's house, but the next day they came back with riot police who surrounded the area.
She says officers with their Tasers drawn handcuffed her, threw her into the back of a riot van, and took her to a police station where she was charged with dishonestly retaining a wrongful credit, which carries up to ten years behind bars."

The UK police do not turn up in riot gear for a fraud arrest.  If you unexpectedly find £52,000 in your bank account you know it's a mistake, you don't go out and spend it.  You don't then whine to the press that it's all because you're pretty.  You just can't cure stupid - I think the Sharpie eyebrows prove that.

She'd be pretty if her eyebrows weren't designed by Lamborghini.

And here I thought it was Mexicans you had to separate from the Sharpies.  I imagine the ex-boyfriend will be stepping up to do the right thing, right quick.

Did she spend the whole lot on Sharpies?

I am sure that if this was the USA, she could sue in federal court in the sincerely held religious belief that Jesus intended for her to spend this money.

I find it to be a fatuous argument, but to be fair, if the shoes were on the other feet, I doubt the government would be quick to return the funds.

Poor decision making + mysterious 52k quid in your account = an article that will eventually end up on Fark.

I hear about things like this alot. Isn't there any bank culpability? At least someone losing their job over it, or at least being publicly chided? I'd say if something like that happened to me, I'd offer to return the funds, less a "processing fee".
Before I bought my 270k house almost 5 years ago, was saving money for a down payment, had both accounts at Wells Fargo, those Bastards. Once I was low on cash right before payday, checked my balance twice at an ATM, was charged 25 bucks each time, they took it out of my savings for the house. Told my wife, she was incensed, and we proceeded to close the account. We had almost 60k in that savings account,he bank manager came out to ask us not to close the account, he'd waive the NSF, and i advised what's to keep him from doing it in the future. We opened a savings account at a credit union. The Fargo manager said he couldn't give more than 10k at a time, I said I'll make 6 trips for 10k cashiers checks. Not to mention the hold time on the deposits. Screw Wells Fargo, and the sneaky tactics lots of banks like that do.
we had  case a lot like it in albuquerquelast week, an error of over 40k, guy spent it, bank asked for it back, he came out and said he didn't have it. It's still playing out. And again, Fark Wells Fargo.

Welfare

That is what I was thinking, but I wouldn't think anyone would be so brazen and/or stupid to pull that stunt if they were already receiving public assistance. I would assume that since she is "so beautiful" HR departments all over Great Britain would be banging on her door. Judge did her a huge favor and she is even dressing him down. I would go ahead and give her till December, and if she didn't repay it to the penny with payday loan type interest, off to the house she goes.

I feel sorry for her kid(s).

2014-07-06 01:25:19 AM
LOL.

I didn't know it was possible for accidentally have money put in your bank account.

The other way happens all the time. The banks takes money away for whatever reason and I have to go and spend an hour to get it back.

And, of course, it is a crime if you spend the money that gets put in your account. However, if money gets lost from your account, you are at the mercy of the tellers and customer service.

The girl is hot. She looks like Sharon Stone.

Basically it's local government, similar to a city council in the U.S.

Tr0mBoNe: These eyebrows have been brought to you by The Office Depot.

I didn't read the article, but I was curious why she used electrical tape to make her eyebrows.  I guess Sharpies probably makes more sense.

It's neat how many times that happens, when some totally unrelated thing about a story really sticks out in my mind and I can't think of anything else, then go to the comments on Fark and that's also what some other random Farker thought.

Nah. UK welfare comes from central government ("Department fore Work & Pensions")

This is an refund of local tax error

I agree that banks are dicks to a fault, but in this case they did everything right. The article indicates that the council had to stop another £44,500 going into her account, so the error was that they had the wrong account number, or the wrong deposit amount.

Nah - it depends on your income level and your level of risk aversion.

If you have a middle class lifestyle - sure.
If you are poor?  Why not.

They can't seize assets you don't have.  The 90k you got, you spend, anything you get smaller than a car won't be repossessed.  The stuff you do get, you can always pawn off or tuck away.  If you are a single mom without a job - there aren't any wages to garnish.  Everything you have is given to you by the government, and the government has a limit to what they'll take away.  In the US even - they'll only garnish an amount less than what they calculate you need to live.  Again, if you are used to a nice upper-middle class lifestyle, that would suck.  If you are already below that, you're golden.

As long as you show up on your court date, you won't find yourself in jail.
Your credit means nothing.
They won't be able to repo most of the stuff you got
They won't be able to take your wages because you have none

The smart business move could very well be to take the money and run.

It's just for a normal household - 90k isn't enough to make it worth it.  For 900k it would be (or 9 million if you're already doing pretty good), so long as you could get the money some place outside the reach of the bank.  Still for 9 million relocating to another country is the smart business move to make.

There's something slightly off about that face -- besides the eyebrows -- but those look like some farkable titties.
However, honey, it has nothing to do with looks, and everything to do with you spending money that didn't belong to you.

She is quite pretty, which will make things much easier for her in a UK women's prison. Well, much more interesting, anyway. So she has that going for her.
