I used to have an older RX-7 that one day developed a radiator leak. Some random person called in a smoking vehicle, and I got pulled over some time after I had fixed the leak, and the officer informed that my car had been reported as a "gross polluter". I wonder if that would apply here?

/explained to the officer, but i still had to get a new smog check, grrrr

I didn't know that was a thing.

Does it apply to commercial trucks as well? I see panel vans and box trucks on the highway that puff out more smoke than a Cheech and Chong festival. I'd heard that because they were commercial vehicles they're exempt, but never looked up if it's true.

The rule here is "visible blue or black exhaust emissions" is a fail at inspection time. If the truck were inspected with the smoke generator active, it would also fail an exhaust sniffer test. Except they don't sniff the exhaust any more. They plug into the computer and ask it if the emissions control systems are working.

I don't know if inspectors or police could make trouble over an on demand system like this, if it were off during inspection.

So if I drive a big truck with smoke stacks and Truck Nutz I'm an insecure, paranoid dude compensating for my small weenis, if I drive a Prius I'm a dirty filthy Obonka worshipping hippie Super Libtendo Entertainment System, and if I drive an import I'm a Takumi Fujiwara wannabe who bolted a park bench on my dad's Honda Civic after watching The Fast and The Furious one too many times.

What, then, is the good and proper almighty vehicle of choice for me to drive?  The farking Batmobile?

I went from a 4x4 Tacoma (standard I should point out) to a Prius a year ago. Mostly because I was going to be driving 500 mi per week and because the clutch was starting to act up.

Calculated I was saving $.10 per mile because my MPG more than doubled.

I've found that people who think their cars need to make a statement are douchenozzles of the highest order.  Years ago it was the yuppies with their sedans, then it was the Prius drivers, and now it's people driving ridiculous trucks that never see a day of real work in their entire lifetime.

It's just disgusting. The taking a dump into the air just to hurt people who believe in clean air is one thing. But (why am I surprised?) about the straight-out racism "you damned ricer" just leaves my head shaking. It's totally pathological to be ruled not by what you want and can give to others, but instead ruled by how much you hate and want destroy the "other". Jesus truly weeps, and not because same gendered lovers, but because the haters.

That's an old term that originated when the Japanese started making inroads into the US car market back in the 60-70s.  And at the time, there was still latent anger over WWII and later the true national economic threat that the Japanese auto industry was to the union workers in Detroit.

It's amazing that people have forgotten the surge towards southern auto plants and the collapse of the UAW was led by Japanese auto manufacturers. The racism is very much a product of the northern manufacturing class.

I see. I'm an ex-Detroiter myself, but never heard "ricer". Just "the Japanese" was enough. In 1982 there was the infamous murder of Vincent Chin, a Chinese man beaten to death as the murderers blamed him for being Japanese and therefore taking away auto industry jobs.

In California, "rice rocket" is a friendly jab at Japanese motorcycles, kind of like FORD=FixOrRepairDaily was used by Chevy partisans. But it's not against the Japanese per se, just choice of motorcycle.

I've always heard the term "ricers" used as a pejorative for souped up Hondas, etc.,  by the owners of old school American muscle cars. As in, "Let's see that ricer take my Butterfly blown, dual Holly 600 double-pumping, Hearst-shifting, 3/4 race cammed, bullet-proofed transmissioned, positraction rear-ended, {insert make model, year of choice} ass on the track."

I haven't heard it used as a pejorative for genuinely well tuned Japanese cars (well, perhaps in a friendly way) but rather as one for the 'This Type-S sticker adds 20hp!' crowd.

In all fairness, "ricer" is a relatively recent term to describe tricked out Japanese cars from about 1995 on.  Before that it would have been "rice eater" "rice burner" "rice ball" "rice rocket" - or some variation on rice.  Rice themed slurs exploded during the Vietnam war for understandable reasons.  "Rice eaters" was a common slur during WWI, and I guess everything grew out of that.

So I was wrong on my assessment that "ricer" was an old term.  It's not.  It's just an evolution of an old one. My bad.  In the 80's in Detroit, the preferred slur still would have been "Japs."

How is this surprising to anyone?

Conservatives do not give two f*ks for people, the Earth, existence, Jesus, themselves, or their children.
They are are just vile sacks of shiat who were created by Satan and all that is evil to become fat, lazy, filth to foul the pipe of humanity.

They love being stupid lumps of fat, wobbling on the ground until they burn in hell.  Much like their parents and exactly like all their porcine children that they shiat out on the world.

Just look at Rush Limbug if you don't believe me.

If Lincoln didn't get assassinated, I'd imagine the Reconstruction of the South would've been similar to that of Germany and Japan post-WWII.

It's time that America does to the Confederate flag, and almost anything pertaining to the Confederates, what Germany has done to the Nazi flag: have it banned from public display unless it's for educational, artistic or scientific purposes.

If this is only for diesel, somebody should design a stack unit for gas trucks separate from the emissions system and controlled by Bluetooth and an app. Run it off the so called biodiesel and come up clean at every inspection or when a pig follows up on a crybaby report. Other than that, push the planet to burn.

New hobby time!
