Too bad on her part, she'll be paying Child support for 18 years if not more regardless as to how she feels about the child now.  The good news is, she has a chance to change her mind how she feels about paying Child Support.

We'll see. The law doesn't like to apply itself equally to men and women. I hope so. If I (a man) knock up a woman, my view of the child won't matter in regards child support. That is the way it should be, but it will be nice to see it happen here too.

Doesn't matter.  Surrogates generally get a contract signed beforehand that lays out parental rights and obligations by both sides in all eventualities.  Child Support is generally covered in this sort of contract and you can be sure if the woman doesn't take on the child as its mother, the surrogate mother 'will' be getting Child Support from both of the other parties for the next 18 years or more.

Doesn't matter.  She signed the contract stating that she'd be taking on the role of parent upon the child's birth.  And, undoubtedly, the eventualities covered the possibility of the woman changing her mind on taking on the role of parent and that'll be where the Child Support will be covered.

On a side note, Child Support has, increasingly, nothing to do with genetic parentage.  If a man actively raises a child and finds out after 6 years that it's not his biological kid and leaves his cheating wife, then she can 'still' file for Child Support on him since he'd been the child's parent for those years.

And then the woman can turn around and file for Child Support from the biological father, too.  Because reasons.

If he did this just to trap her, then I understand her POV. I also understand that they previous poster about the guy having to pay continuous support for a kid that was not his is wrong.

There is a serious disparity between men and women when it comes to support and custody. I do not blame her for playing the system. I feel sorry for the kid in the middle who is getting screwed before birth.

I hate to be the one to white knight Woopie, but on this issue she has been unfairly maligned, because what she said has been taken completely out of context.

The issue they were discussing revolved around what specific crime Roman Polanski had entered a plea of guilty as part of the his plea-bargain deal.  He had been charged with 6 separate felonies, one of which was "Rape" under California statutes.  Whoopi, said she couldn't remember the exact crime, but she was fairly certain it wasn't "rape, rape."  A minute or two later, someone provided the exact crime, which was - under California Law "unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor" and not as defined by California Statute "Rape."

She wasn't try to diminish what he did, defend him or otherwise deny his culpability, she was trying to get the very technical element of the specific crime he had committed.  She was absolutely correct with her statement it was not "rape, rape" but some people took the entire thing (primarily FOX News, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Beck, etc.) and changed the narrative and a lot of people apparently bought it hook, line and sinker.  All of this despite the fact she put out a statement within hours that she was not a Polanski supporter and thought he should do time for the crime.

THIS. Thank you!

I feel sorry for the baby. I couldn't imagine finding out that my once potential mom dropped custody over me just because child support became an issue.

I've seen it happen before though. Dated a guy whose mom always complained about his dad not paying up but had another kid she refused to pay support for to the father. Signed over full custody of that kid to the father on terms of him no longer seeking payment. Wonders why said kid hates her to this day.

There is no reality in which a grown man puts his penis in the anus of a 13 year old(after drugging said child foe good measure) and that does not involve outright violence.

So yes, it was rape-rape, and Whoopi's an awful person for what she said and deserves all the scorn in the world.

If this were a guy trying to get out of an agreement to support a child even if he isn't the biological father then the feminists would be up in arms, but This time its ok because vagina.

In fact based on the "logic" that family courts tend to use I wouldn't be surprised if not only this womans ex husband has to support the child but the surrogates boyfriend/husband/ex would be forced to pay child support too....  Because feminism.

willfullyobscure,

Are you really that stupid or you just pretend.

Again, the issue wasn't whether he committed a crime or did a horrible thing to an underage girl, the issue was what specific crime under the California statutes to which he had actually entered a plea of guilty.  It was NOT rape!

That is not me taking a moral stand or defending him (nor was Whoopi), that is simply a statement of actual FACT!

If you cannot distinguish between the two, go taking a farking course in logic and get back to me.  Simply stating a fact does not make someone an awful person or deserving of scorn.

Let me repeat this for you:  He did NOT plead guilty to the crime of RAPE as it is defined under the Laws of the State of California.  He plead guilty to a separate felony, identified then under the State's criminal statutes as: "Unlawful intercourse with a minor."

By me being factually accurate and identifying the specific crime, so there is no confusion as to which of the 6 felony charges that were filed against him he actually plead guilty:  Does that make me an "awful person" and worthy of "scorn" or are unable to deal with reality?   You can say he raped her all day long and be outraged by his actions (as am I) but you CAN NOT factually claim that he plead guilty to the crime of rape.

Whoopi was merely trying to get to the technical issue of to which crime he had plead guilty. That was the context of the conversation that was going on and her attempting to verify to which felony charge he plead guilty.

Came here for this, and yes, she was.

And when someone tried to explain the idea of BC as in "The thousands of years before Christ was born there was, obviously, no Christianity," her response was gold, Jerry! COMEDY GOLD!

"No, no, no, no," she said, waving her hands in the most dismissive way possible, and then, with the certainty only the brain dead and the insane can muster, "There was *nothing* before Christianity."

What a ringing endorsement this is.  Sounds totally consensual to me.

Or more likely, she is tired of being in the news as that girl Roman Polanski raped.
