Why the "unlikely" tag subby?

2014-07-05 10:46:41 AM
isn't using federal land for illicit grows actually pretty common?

Yes it is. It seems tens of thousands of acres of wildland that can't be developed or easily covered, might attract the odd criminal growth operation.

2014-07-05 10:50:03 AM
WOW, how much are each one of those tiny plants worth?

Everything's bigger in Texas. But the stupid is gargantuan.

It's probably a cartel grow in its early stages. Texas could stop illegal cartel grows by legalizing weed. They could, but they won't. Too much reefer madness in that state.

There's no federal land in Texas, or very little. Also the article specifically says that the grow was found by a guy who just bought the land and was checking it out. So subby is on drugs.

so the guys took off when the rancher approached.... fair enough.  Why didn't they just chill and put the area under surveillance till the guys were dumb enough to come back?  Born/raised/live in Texas -- and if they were so bent on finding the guys, you don't advertise that you busted the place all over the news

Not only for the pot, but any gear they left behind?

never smoked pot, and don't care to, i really don't care if other people do either in the privacy of their own home and are responsible about the whole thing.   Personal experience however has shown me that if you are a pothead, ODDS are you are a dumb lazy fark who just sits around after working part time at McDonalds.

I don't know about this grow, but a lot of cartel grows on federal land are pretty environmentally unfriendly.  Seriously, fark them.

Not uncommon, really. A huge pot farm was found right off the interstate on state property in Chicago not long ago. Stuff's not hard to hide in plain sight.

Find where the truckers jump on back roads to avoid the scales.

I've smoked for 38 years. I have raised a family, been class mom, volunteered at the Blood Bank for the last 8 years...donated a gallon of blood, too. I've been a home health care aid and taken care of WW2 vets dying with Alzheimers as a complication. I took care of my own dad who had Alzheimers for 6 years. Right now, I work a an usher for a very large company. I get to see all the shows that come through my town and get paid for it.

and all of that while smoking virtually every day for the last 36 years.

So yeah, tell me and Carl Sagan, et al. how lazy and stupid we are?

There's plenty.

Big Bend and Guadeloupe Mountains in the west.  Rita Blanca and Lake Meredith in the panhandle, several National Wildlife Refuges on the Gulf, 4 national forests between Houston and Shreveport, Balcones Canyonlands near Austin, Hagerman NWR and Caddo grassland near the Red River.

Let us get to the point.
Pouring a poison like alcohol into your body is STUPID.
Another fact, humans will alter their awareness. At least, they always have.

A safe, non toxic, non habituating alternative would be so nice.

From TFA:
A Chambers County, Texas, rancher called the county Sheriff's Office after checking out land that he recently leased from the Army Corps of Engineers

But yes, the article was a bit ambiguous about it at first.

That last comment was some Texas sized fail.

The rancher *leased* the land from the Army Corps of Engineers. So it is still federal land.

And there is plenty of Federal land in Texas, including national forests, national parks, military bases, and various other lands.

Checks article again...

A Chambers County, Texas, rancher called the county Sheriff's Office after checking out land that he recently leased from the Army Corps of Engineers and finding two individuals who took off running when they saw him on Tuesday.

Fun fact:  Leased != bought.  And the Army Corps of Engineers is a federal agency.

So, yeah, federal land.

From where I"m sitting, in a state the size of Texas, that's not much. But I went back and read the article again. It looks like somebody broke out the thesaurus for it. It's "purchased" "bought" "leased" "owned" (by the rancher)--it's federal land recently gotten on a long-term lease by this rancher. As far as the yokels around here are concerned, he OWNS it.
The pot growers should have checked with the Corp of Engineers before they got their grow going. Bad timing on their part. And wow, I am staggered at the size of it. Why, you could stone everyone in the country on those plants. The horror.

I have a buddy that has a house on 50 acres of woodland out in bumfark rural MN.

One day, he comes home from work, and his wife is very upset. Seems a DNR officer stopped by unannounced and was asked her whether she had any knowledge of "wild hemp" on the property. The officer explained that this was serious problem and they may need to search the woods to make sure there wasn't any wild hemp out there. She said that, no, she had never seen any wild hemp. The officer said wild hemp can be a danger to small children and pets, so keep an eye out. Then he left.

My buddy: "Why are you so upset, honey?"

Wife: "Well, all day, all I could this about were the dogs. What if they ran into some hemp, got into it, and got bit?"

Buddy: "What?"

Wife: "Hemp. They're nasty animals, especially if they have rabies. Please go out there and check."

Buddy: "Ohhh. OK. I better bring my rifle just in case."

He drove straight to the Muni and told the bartender the story.
