How about......no. Even Rush Limbaugh could get Elton John for one million despite it being that gay-inside homophobe-outside Limbaugh's fourth sham marriage to a beard.

Probably worth every penny. That dude can wail.

Prince is playing a concert in New Orleans tonight. I can't make it, unfortunately.

You can book Pauly Shore for about $5000.

Don't laugh.  It's all he can afford.

I think you could get an actual prince for less than that

But will he make you a pancake breakfast?

I knew a guy in high school who saved Brooke Shields from drowning and blew the reward money hiring Van Halen to play at his birthday party.

Well, for a little more than a tenth of that amount you could have Hillary Clinton come to your private function.

Oh, probably much less.

I used to like Prince when his name was a symbol, but now that he's gone back to a regular name hes perfectly over.

Honestly, you'd be hard pressed to find another person with as much musical talent in them as Prince has in his left pinky finger. $2 million for him to perform at a private gig, when he could make MUCH more at a public concert, is quite a bargain.

2014-07-04 04:37:29 PM
I ain't betting 2 million on anything.

i seriously doubt that 1 "public" concert is going to net any performer $2mil...performers like prince would rather not do the private gigs at all, but if they set a super high price and someone still says "yeah, i'll book him", well hell, it's $2mil in their pocket. there are a lot of things i'd do for $2mil...i've played private gigs for free...

$2M? Maybe for the original Prince, but not for the new guy.

Book Prince and then request he play "Billie Jean" and "Beat It".  When he explains that those are Michael Jackson songs, not his, get a pained look on your face and say that you confused those two pseudo-black creepy performers.  Ask him to list some of his songs.  After he lists a few tell him to not bother playing, but to go clean your toilet to earn his paycheque that night.

There should be several of these ">" between Prince and Rush, with experiences like being audited by the IRS and getting a root canal between the extremes.

My CSB:

Wife and I were at a local sushi place and Pauly Shore comes in and sits down next to us at the sushi bar He was a complete tool (not suprising) but then he called some chick on his cell and was trying to get some chick to come over to his hotel and boink him. He kept calling her "big toes" and saying crap like "but I'm the weasle" (said in that stupid voice). It was all my wife and I could do not to just laugh our god damn asses off the entire time.

It would be interesting to see the accounting for a show by some of these acts.....I left out musician because I'm including entertainers/tiger beat celebs like Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber.

All the overpriced beer, t-shirts, tickets, convenience fees and promotions (think "Budweiser presents...") add up to a lot of money, but then you have to pay the area or stadium and you have to pay the vendors (presumably in dirt, but it still adds up) and security and the roadies and the backup musicians or dancers or whatever.

I don't have any clue what Prince nets from a a 25,000 seat arena show.  Let's say tickets are $50...that's $1.25 million.  Maybe people spend an average of $25 on merchandise and concessions.  That's another $612,500.  Maybe I'm shortchanging Prince, but that's not even $2 million and I'm talking gross receipts, not what Prince takes home.

And of course if he does a private show, he's still probably going to bring in a semi or two worth of equipment and stage setup and he's still going to have to pay roadies and probably security and his band.

If I had shiat-tons of money I could see paying $2 million for Prince, but I'd probably have to rent out a nice venue.

If I win the lottery, I'll sponsor a Fark party at Red Rocks only for Farkers featuring Prince and a surprise act of my own choosing.

gfid: And of course if he does a private show, he's still probably going to bring in a semi or two worth of equipment and stage setup and he's still going to have to pay roadies and probably security and his band.

This is the biggest part. The logistics of a one off show are a nightmare. Big tours are set up like clockwork with everything planned out to make it run smooth. They are playing venues which in turn have contracts with the local union to provide competent stagehands and techs. The venue itself is designed to get equipment in and out and lots of stuff (lights and trusses, stage, dressing rooms, heavy duty electrical service, etc.) is already on site. For private venues all of that becomes an issue and even if the artist's people are not dealing with that directly, it has to be coordinated. When some rich guy hires you to play a private gig they don't want to hear the same set you just played on your last tour so there's time involved in creating the set list, choreography, lighting cues and all the other things that go into playing a major show. Also hiring roadies, lighting techs, drivers, and other necessary personnel is much more expensive for a one night stand than the nightly rate for a three month tour. I wouldn't be surprised if half that $2 mil fee was overhead.
