Religious.  Don't forget religious.  They actually believe that "It's Gawd's Will" absolves them of responsibility.  And if that doesn't do it, they'll scuttle to the altar and "confess in silent prayer" and their god will forgive them, their sins washed white as snow.  Done.  Forgotten.

This is one reason religion is farking dangerous shiat.

Hey, it's not like I went as far as saying, "Don't give a five-year-old a loaded gun." Because that would just be crazy.

While not going all ITG here, I'd be hard pressed not to go into a screaming rage at these idiots if I was nearby & heard them say such idiocy.

No, grandma...It's 100% the fault of you and anyone else that was involved in not only giving a 5-year old a rifle and allowing him to use it unsupervised. It is 100% your fault that not only is an innocent 2-year old child dead because of your unforgivable carelessness, but you're also 100% responsible for the emotional trauma you & your family have inflicted on a 5-year old. He will have to live with that the rest of his life because I don't think for a minute your family will get him the counseling he will need.

Your religion is f*cking retarded and you are retarded for believing in it.

Dammit, subby, I already got outraged about this last year. Can't you find a newer story of a kid shooting a kid? It can't be that difficult.

If only the two year old had had a gun to protect herself.

If you are going to give your child a firearm, make sure they know all the rules, know the gun is not a toy, and for God's sake, keep the rifle locked up when not in use, and the ammo separate. Even if you don't have a safe, this model rifle has a built in key lock, and not only that, is next to harmless without access to ammo. There were so many preventable mistakes made here.

As has been said, it's nothing more than a way to try and absolve responsibility

OR you could not give a 5 year old a firearm to begin with.

In this world, in which guns exist, it is important to teach children the proper way to act around firearms. 5 is very young to do this, but giving your child(older) their own firearm to use when they go shooting with you is not a bad idea, if you take it seriously and teach them all of the safety rules, and most importantly keep the firearm locked with either a gun lock, a safe, or both with the exception of time at the range.

Maybe it will be god's will if she suffers a prolapsed anus and the kid's parents are in jail for negligent homicide. Which they should be.

The proper way to teach kids to act around guns is to immediately leave the area, don't get near it, don't touch it, and alert an adult to its presence.

For an unsecured firearm, that is absolutely true. The rules with a supervising parent at a range are completely different though. Those are; The gun is not a toy, the muzzle must always be pointed either at the ground or down range, always know your target and what is beyond it, only target what you are willing to destroy, and finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire, and all other rules have been followed. Also, even if the gun is unloaded, THE GUN IS ALWAYS LOADED! These things should be taught if the kid is going to be around any firearms.

"It was God's will. It was her time to go, I guess. I just know she's in heaven right now and I know she's in good hands with the Lord."

Safer than being in your hands apparently.

You can use that kind of thinking to console yourself with the fact you are responsible for the death of a 2 year old child and the guilt the 5 year old will have to keep with him, though I suppose he may learn the lack of responsibility from granny, so he may be fine.

Every gun owner and shooter should know the 5 tenets of gun handling:
1. ALWAYS assume the gun is loaded
2. Know your target and what is beyond your target
3. Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction
4. Finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
5. Never point at anything you don't intend to shoot

You don't hand an untrained person a lethal weapon and expect them to know how to use it. Just as you don't toss your car keys to a 16 year old who has never driven before without teaching them how to drive.

He is correct though. If the gun is just laying out for anyone to find, this is exactly what a child should do. They shouldn't even think about touching it, even if they know enough about guns to unload it.

It is not, and should never have been treated that way, as evidenced by what happened. The parents broke every single possible rule.

Holy farkballs, yes. How the fark are they not charging her for negligence? Because giving a firearm to a 5 year old and then leaving the firearm, the 5 year old and a 2 year old unsupervised is clearly farking negligent.

And grandma's bullshiat about how it was "her time to go" should have gotten her punched in the farking mouth by someone, anyone, within earshot. Grandma, did you ever think that maybe your god had expected you to take care of those kids like a responsible adult and not let them shoot each other? WTF is wrong with that family AND with the local authorities? Fark them all.
