"I don't see anything wrong with the comment," his spokesperson said.

Ahh, denial of reality.

What's this I hear about the GOP wanting to draft Mitt again for 2016, anyway?

"I'm guessing that most of you in this room are not in that 47 percent -God bless you- but what that tells me is that we've got almost half the population perfectly happy that somebody else is paying the bill, and most of that half is you all,"

Ah, the old "Dems are all poor lazy leeches and Republicans are all hard working prosperous Real Merkins" BS divisiveness again.

The lie works because Republicans "want to believe" so badly and are reality averse by nature and are prone to narratives of laughably simplistic false black/white dichotomies.

Beauprez is running against Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) and served in Congress from 2003 to 2007.

I hope Hickenlooper stomps him into paste.

Of course, those people would have some federal taxes to pay, if they were better paid. How about that?

"I submit to you that there is a political strategy to get slightly over half and have a permanent a permanent ruling majority by keeping over half of the population dependent on the largesse of government that somebody else is paying for," Beauprez added.

Riiight. So the Democrats' plan is:

Step 1: Turn at least 51% of the population into income tax freeloaders. Unspecified how this is to occur: lowering tax rates? No, that's a GOP plan. Eliminating minimum wage laws? No, that's a GOP plan, too. "Wreck the economy" in some unspecified way, so long as the upper classes manage to come out largely unscathed? Nope. Maybe we'll just have to come back to this one.

Step 2: At election time, find some way to make sure that every single one of them turns out to vote. Never mind that the Democrats already command substantial registration advantages over Republicans in most states, yet struggle to muster enough turnout.

Step 3: Ensure that the same 51% never get out of the low income brackets (the brackets that allow them to avoid paying income taxes). Convince them to turn down a $50,000/yr. salary, and instead decide to stay on an annual public assistance stipend of $12,000, because getting a job would require them to pay $8,000 a year in income taxes.

Step 4: Permanent majority!

This is the logic of a person who believes himself qualified to lead an entire state.

2014-07-03 04:59:34 PM
The thing I'm worried about is that Hickenlooper stated that he won't be doing much in the way of campaigning since he has so much on his plate. That could really hurt him.

Of course, if Beauprez keeps up with shiat like this (Has he not figured out that he's also talking about the military and retired folks?) then Hick may not need to campaign, since Beauprez won't have feet much longer since he keeps shooting himself there. Saw him on channel 4 news the day after he won the primary. One of the anchors asked "What do we need to do to win here?". That alone had my mouth agape, but then Beau went on that typical Teabbagger rant about "I believe in people, and I want to return the overreaching power of the government to the people."

I was just hoping that the fawning anchor would have asked him to be specific over what particular part of the state government is it that he finds overreaching. I'm pretty positive he would have been able to come up with only one thing. The recent gun law.

The guy's an ass.

Uzzah: Turn at least 51% of the population into income tax freeloaders. Unspecified how this is to occur: lowering tax rates? No, that's a GOP plan.

That's the beauty of this plan. Most of the people who don't pay income taxes do so because of the Child Tax credit pushed by Republicans in the 90s or the Earned Income Tax Credit expansion that was signed into law by...Ronald Reagan. The demon-rats have turned our own tools against us!

The thing that really gets me about the whole thing is that a big chunk of the 47% (which is now something closer to 43%, but that's another matter) do pay income tax.  It's just done in the form of medicare/social security payroll taxes that doesn't go directly into the general fund rather then regular Federal income tax.  But from their perspective it's still money that comes out of their paycheck and goes to the Federal government.

And even their income tax - unless they've managed to completely zero out their monthy withholding - is taken out of their paycheck and paid to the federal government. They just get it all back in April, after giving the government a nice interest-free loan for the last year.

who was the dickbag that decided that the only taxes that count are federal income taxes?  What are payroll taxes? just 20% of our income that we give up out of the kindness of our hearts? What about sales taxes on everything we buy? Those don't count?

Not to mention that it was REPUBLICANS who set the federal income tax levels where they are because they used to actually feel like they had to throw a bone to the middle class every now and again while fellating their corporate paymasters.

Why is the GOP only capable of dishonesty these days?

"I don't see why it would be controversial to want more people to prosper," Olson said to the Colorado newspaper. "We should be focused on building up our economy so more people have jobs and prosper. It is a sad state of affairs when people are in an economic situation where they are not able to pay federal income tax."

That's why we need to eliminate the minimum wage and eliminate capital gains taxes.

"I submit to you that there is a political strategy to get slightly over half and have a permanent ruling majority by keeping over half of the population dependent on the largesse of government that somebody else is paying for," Beauprez added.

This makes absolutely no sense as a strategy.

"I don't see why it would be controversial to want more people to prosper," Olson said to the Colorado newspaper.

But your boss just said

"we've got almost half the population perfectly happy that somebody else is paying the bill"

Either A) you're trying to ruin the happiness of 47% of the population or B) people aren't happy being poor and want to prosper. Which is it?
