Well shiat, I'm leaving work right now....

2014-07-03 12:04:54 PM
HELL yes! I'd do that.

2014-07-03 12:21:15 PM
I'm in!

2014-07-03 12:21:27 PM
looks like fun to me.  Going down in a raft seems to be cheating though.

You've probably got enough velocity to put a loop in that thing...

/yes I know it was done at whatever that park that constantly killed people in NJ was called
//it might actually work here though

Can you imagine the chafing otherwise?

Then there's the Schlitterbahn ride that propels you UPHILL via an enormous jet of water.

I swear, the colonic I got was so powerful, my molars were cleaned!

Or maybe you lost the elasticity in your o-ring.

Glad to see they got the whole "raft flying off into space as the passengers scream their last" thing fixed.

That's what the water is there to prevent, just like any other waterslide.  I'd be a lot more interested in going down if they'd made it work without the raft.

/I'd still do it, seems fun enough
//though probably not wearing engineer boots and shorts
///seriously, wtf?

What the hell. You gotta die of something.

The introduction of a raft with a buffering device fixes the main flaw that I experienced years ago when I rode the tallest and steepest water slide at Action Park.

Namely, that when I hit the bottom the force of the water made my anus open up like a dragster parachute, forcing fifty gallons of chlorinated sewage into my small intestine.

The whole thing was rather traumatic and highly unhygienic.

I guess the upside is that I know what it's like to be raped by Poseidon.

Yeah, well, they don't actually know whose testicles they were.  You can't dust for testicles.

No. Nonononononono. I did Summit Plummet at Disney and that was quite enough.

Action Park? I was just reading about it yesterday - they're reopening the park, but this slide is long gone.

The lifeguard?

Now, if they showed that video to the guy just before he rode it for the first time... then I'm not sure you can get steel balls that big actually up into your throat.

2014-07-03 02:57:02 PM
Netting over the entire slide?

Looks like a good way to lose a finger.

That's awesome.

They should have had that playing above all the peoples' heads as they were waiting for the plunge and time it so that just as they see the raft launch into space, their raft starts moving down that plunge.

Whee!

Ok, that does look like fun....

It originally was supposed to open for Memorial Day Weekend. My brother came up to visit last weekend and we agreed that if less than 3 people had died on it from Memorial Weekend to when he'd be up here, we'd do it... alas, it kept getting delayed so we missed our opportunity.

Action Park, that's it.  I'm glad I lived far enough away that all I ever did was read about it, that place seemed lethal in many ways....

Looks fun.  Needs more sending someone catapulting in a lake.

On second thought, now that I've actually watched the video, maybe it's not any worse than Summit Plummet, even though it's higher. Looks less steep. I could probably do this.

I remember going on a slide like that when I was 14. The end of it shot the rider off a several foot drop into the pool below. My testicles were not happy.

That's one of the questions that Action Park's insurance carrier asked, eventually forcing the place to close down.

From what I've read, people who went on it made it through, but with quite a few bumps and bruises. Actually... {does a little search} here's the story that I think I had read before. It sounds like not very many people actually went on it, because they knew it was a deathtrap.

That's why everybody signed waivers and teenage employees were paid $100 to find out if it was even possible

It didn't last long

I see they did install a canopy around the entire trough. Seems their insurer won that argument.
