I wonder if Sony's insistence on the PS Vita being the only way to get a Second Screen experience on the PS4 (Plus all the shiny things that SS feature brings) has anything to do with the increase in buy-in for the Vita

Oddly enough, since I've been using the online store to get all the "free" games on the PS VITA before I owned one, I eventually decided I should buy one, since I already had a game library built up to go with it. I remember trying to go out to find one in stores, and it was... missing from a lot of them. I eventually just bought it online.

The article is at least partly attributing it to Borderlands 2.
If you already have a PS+ account for your PS3/4 then the free games each month help justify the price of the system.

I personally started buying vita games in preparation for the playstation tv. Thrn I had to buy a vita to play the games, but I bought mine used.

Guacamelee! is a pretty fun game, even though I can't get past Galaca (therefore I can't finish it.)

Remember a decade a go or so, when the media was talking about Iranian agents buying playstations in order to use the chips in their military technology? If that was true at all, this could be similar.

Nah, they would go after used smart phones first, more plentiful and probably easier to modify.

PSN plus really makes the console worth while if you have had ps+ for the last few years, and thus, have been able to reserve all the titles.  I swear, I've got, between retail and psn stuff, probably 20-25 games for it now.  Most are indies.

It's not a bad handheld, and it does have some fun games, but damn those memory cards.  Sony really, REALLY screwed the pooch with those things.

I know people who own the PS Vita, but they are otaku who play Persona 4 on it, so take that as you will. I don't remember if they have the same region locking as the 3DS (which greatly annoyed the hardcore otaku gamers, since you can't play japanese games).

IT does not, save for some games DLC.  Most other games will work fine though.

It is good hardware, but its only big name games are ports that are usually inferior to the other versions (due to hardware limitations of a handheld vs a home console).

Between that and the memory cards it is a hard sell on its own.

And neither of those are likely to change since it is now marketed as a PS4 accessory rather than its own console.

LOVE that game on the PC. Calaca was a pain in the ass to me too until I started getting the hang of it in memorization terms. I can't imagine playing on such a small screen (compared to a computer monitor) helps either with the shield colors either...

It really is some nice hardware.  Beats every other handheld I have.  The fact that Unity is now working on it should see more titles show up in fairly short order I think.

I absolutely love my Vita. Makes my business trips overseas that much more bearable.

Plus I love being able to play my PS4 while ht wifey watches her girlie shows.

it's sold out because most of the retailers are no longer asking for them, there's plenty of anecdotal evidence that says most stores haven't received new shipments for months now

it's a nice piece of hardware, but pricing and a drought of big games since year 1 meant that it was an easy pushover for the 3ds in the marketplace and mindshare... it may have now found a niche in downloadable titles - we'll see if that niche develops into anything, it certainly doesn't seem like sony is putting any real commitment into the thing
