Don't give up your lunch money yet, Beaufort County. Arthur doesn't look too serious.

2014-07-03 09:01:25 AM
That's a relief, I had heard otherwise just recently.

I've always been curious, how do the modmins get posts with blatantly conflicting headlines to sync up so.  It's always one of my favorite features of Fark and IMHO one of our beloved website's distinguishing features.

/It's not news...

July 1, 2014

Yeah, two day old news about a hurricane is farking worthless.

2014-07-03 09:06:40 AM
The FA is three days old. The NHC is now showing the entire NC coast has a 100% probability of experiencing hurricane force winds. Three days ago, it was only an 80% probability, so there's that.

2014-07-03 09:06:58 AM
So, I'm guessing one article is for Beaufort, SC and the other for Beaufort, NC?

Hint: the same person submits both of them.

Not only that, but one is "Boe-fort" and the other is "Boo-fart."

Psst.. Beaufort is South Carolina, but the rest of your point stands

Beaufort (pronounced Bo Fort), NC is in Carteret County.  Beaufort (pronounced Bew Fort), SC is in Beaufort (pronounced Bew Fort) County.

Beaufort (pronounced Bo Fort) County North Carolina includes Washington (pronounced Crappy place to live).

I'm guessing someone submits both and they both get picked.
So if you submit two, and both get picked, they put them up.
Or maybe it's done with magnets.

Another factor is that one source with doom and gloom is a news report.  The one with the happy, come to the beach attitude is probably an ad for Independence Day activities.

Magnets and copious amounts of beer.

/I always suspected they worked in a rubber chicken and a condom at some point.

Well, duh! I am familiar with both cities and have visited them many times. This is one of the problems with local media websites, they almost never identify the city in the banner and rarely on even the front page, as newspapers used to. This site only gives a hint on the front page, since it has an FA that refers to the Lowcountry - hence, SC. The NHC has never even hinted that the southern SC coast would be affected. So I assumed.... Not a good thing to do.

What about Hazzard County?

cgraves67: What about Hazzard County?

That's in Georgia, which will be unaffected by the storm.  Luke and Bo are just tickled pink.

Just so those who do not have to contend with hurricanes can understand a little better, we got dumped on by a fair amount of rain in North Miami Beach yesterday, and the storm was way north east of us.

2014-07-03 09:43:39 AM
Hopefully the fireworks will scare it away, be safe Beaufort.

Next time, Beauford... Next time...

The weatherpeople up here in New England are trying to figure out if Arthur will hit Cape Cod or not.

I predict it will be caught between the moon and New York City. I know it's crazy, but it's true.

Agrajag reportedly relieved.

Who could have imagined that hurricane predictions two days apart could be different?

Boggles the minds of modmins

Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

The ad between the two articles really enhances the joke.

I love the doubled up contradictory headlines.  It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's funny.

In other news: The weather is very hard to predict.

2014-07-03 10:40:05 AM
Whatever.  I live in Forsyth County, we really could use the rain, and even the outer bands aren't coming this far inland.  Thankfully we don't have a watering freeze in effect, so my boyfriend and I have taken turns the past few nights watering all our outdoor plants and whatnot.

2014-07-03 11:00:01 AM
Actually Beaufort, SC, is pronounced the same as Buford.

Arthur he does as he pleases.

Well, of course. Because whether or not this is a national emergency and "storm of the century" depends on if a northeastern state will get a few inches of rain from a (then) sub-cat0 tropical storm.

2014-07-03 12:59:13 PM
It's going to push off to the south and hit Altoona.

2014-07-03 12:59:44 PM
I read that as Bea Arthur not threatening...which would only make sense if I had naked pictures of her.

2014-07-03 01:30:48 PM
But, as you see, it's a beautiful day, the beaches are open and people are having a wonderful time.
