2/10. Bad satire is bad.

All joking aside I think that Americans don't like the world cup because they can't stay still for 45+ minutes without a commercial break.

And if this tripped subby's Poe's Law detector, I'm not sure how he or she makes it through a day of Fark.

20 million people in the US watched the last game. By contrast, 5 million people watched the Stanley Cup Final in hockey.

Really this should be the true meaning of Poe's Law.  The problem isn't that there's always somebody crazy enough to genuinely believe things other people consider jokes.  The problem is that some people are so stupid that they can't tell the difference even in the most obvious of cases.

I keep a beer cooler and a gallon milk jug by my recliner because if I go pee I'll miss the only score in the game.

To be fair, it is pretty close to what that screeching harpy Coulter said about soccer.

You don't need a commercial break in soccer.  You can get up, come back 35 minutes later, and not have missed a thing.

So only 2/3 of the estimated illegal immigrants from latin America in the United States, who all love soccer, tuned in? Huh. Super popular.

No, none of those people were watching.  They were all washing out the beer glasses I was drinking out of.  He means 20 million full blooded whites.  And some blacks.  A few Asians too I guess.

It's only fair to compare soccer with hockey if your main focus point of hockey is the Canadiens.

Wow, more Americans watched the World Cup than watched the World Championships of Canadaball.

Wow, I'm sold.

Next up, you gonna point out that the U.S. sells more burritos than poutine?

Know what would sell really well? A poutine burrito! Fark, that sounds tasty. Unfortunately cheese curds are almost impossible to find here and I won't do what one restaurant tried to get away with and use spray cheese instead.

I think the worst part of the World Cup and the ensuing soccer-mania is how political it is. Damn, I'm sick of things being politicized.

Which was only slightly less ridiculous than this one.   So, either Ann is really showing her "satire" hand now, or, she is even more nuts than most thought she was.

No, he / she just really hated America. With a passion.

This is what love of America looks like.

blogs.thetimes-tribune.com

Coulter and her ilk wouldn't know what that's like because they wanted America to fail, they've said it outright for years, and they'll stand in the way of anything proven to move America forward. Because they're s**t, and they know they are.

fatalvenom: It's only fair to compare soccer with hockey if your main focus point of hockey is the Canadiens.

I'd like to propose another comparison: in a nation with over 53 million people, a nation whose name (England) is one that nobody would say isn't synonymous with the the game of cricket, less than 1.5 million people in England watched the Aussies get beaten in the first test of The Ashes last year. And that was with a guaranteed tense final showdown with everything to play for. Less than 3% of the country watched that.

In a nation of around 310 million, an estimated 24.7 million viewers watched the USA - Portugal game on ESPN and Univision, and I'd say there were more for the game yesterday.

Soccer is bigger in the USA than cricket is in England.

The Tea Party hates the World Cup because it's one of the few places on Earth where being American
cannot be plausibly used as an excuse to bully someone....we can't smother it in the flag, so we
hate it....it's called sour grapes.

ha it is harder to work around I will give you that

I was listening to the game on my car radio and had to wait for a stoppage to run inside.

Its the first time I have watched a match since 2010 and I have to say it grows on me more every time. My god its so fast paced compared to baseball or golf I really like it.

Now if they could convince me to give a crap about MLS that would be the real miracle I am much more interested in checking out EPL but we will see how that pans out.
