Well fewer people give a shiat if the hawks win or tie to make the next round.

I kind of like soccer, but don't see setting down to watch a whole game.  Actually, I wonder if they do the same thing for football and racing.  Just highlight the 10 minutes of interesting shiat that happened, don't make me sit through 4 hours so I can talk about those few minutes.

We still have the Hawks?

Why was this greenlit? The hockey mouthbreathers that make up the FARK sports tab don't get NBA references.

Personally, I think regressing versus raw GDP is probably incorrect. I believe GDP per capita would be a better measure as many of the overperforming countries (such as Germany whom he highlights) have a higher per capita than underperforming countries (such as China and India). There's also some bias in that certain regions favor certain sports (such as South America and futbol, India and cricket) in addition to the population bias he mentions. I feel that the proper regression would look something like Elo=B0+B1ln(GDPPC)+BnRn+B3ln(Population)+E where the sub-n represents the set of regional (e.g. NA, EU, etc.) dummy variables. I suppose you could include raw GDP as well given that higher GDP typically means more disposable governmental income to spend on sports although it is a function of per capita and population which are already in the one I specified.

Soccer games are generally 2 hours long in total. Almost all of it actual play.

I like watching the highlights on Univision. My Spanish isn't that great, but there's a larger amount of coverage given to it so I get to see all the good bits. Soccer, golf, and baseball - Sports I love to play, but have no desire to watch and I readily admit that it's due to my attention span.

More amusing is the BBC article saying more than 14 million Americans are going to stop working and watch soccer.  That's a lot of government employees, cuz I'll sure as shiat get laughed at when I tell my boss I want to leave early to watch soccer

Nate Silver started in sports, and online gambling. The only reason he got into politics was that after some politicians passed a law making online gambling more difficult, he wanted to figure out which ones wouldn't get re-elected.

You can watch it while work, in the same way you can Fark at work, which is what I am assuming you are doing now.

The US has got to get more of their top players into European leagues and on good teams. While MLS looks like it will be around for a long time, the bottom line is that the level of talent is nowhere near the European leagues. The owners can't afford to import European talent in their prime here, so the level of play will only improve with development of domestic players.

The men's national team got worse from 1950 to 1958, bottomed out for almost 30 years with no sign of life

It' pretty easy to be good in 1950 when half the men in Europe are dead or crippled.

I work at a very large aerospace manufacturer and we have played all the USA World Cup games in a conference room and we have played most all of the other ones as well.

I worked 70 hours last week (overtime check will be aweome) so I left today so me and my daughter could watch the game together and my boss was very cool about it. However I'm very fortunate to work for a decent company.

LOL.  A Milwaukee Bucks journeyman center is unavailable.. Wait, I don't get it.  Oh, he used to play for the Hawks and he's from the country Georgia, so...  Hmmm.  I still don't get it.
