(Daily Mail)   Man gets his dying wish granted as he marries the love of his life in front of his family in what his brother described as a 'a heartbreaking fairytale' ten hours before losing his battle with cancer. Why doesn't anyone dust in here anymore?   (dailymail.co.uk) divider line 64

What I am wondering is if they consummated the wedding? If they didn't, the responsibility falls to the brother in law for that job; per biblical rules.

I'd consider marrying almost Anyone at the last minute to keep the Vultures in my Family from getting my Stuff! Where did that cute little Candystriper go?

This sort of thing has no business in any sort if publication, because the only people to whom it makes sense are the people involved. To anyone else it's just embarrassing to watch. Just my opinion.

Isn't it a little bit creepy - unless there are children are involved - that you're essentially emotionally blackmailing your girlfriend into becoming a widow?

Yeah, guys aren't big on finding widows unless they're rich.

However, if a dying chick wanted to marry me, I'd go for it just so I could go to bars, squeeze out a tear or two and say "my wife just died" and pull some nice sympathy ass.

He doesn't look 10 hours away from death, he looks at least 6 months to a year away from death.  If he were dying of liver cancer in hours or even days he would have acities and jaundice and probably ammonia-induced encephalopathy. Most people dying of liver cancer go into a coma a few days to a week before they die due to an accumulation of waste products in the blood stream that injure the brain.

The only way that guy died 10 hours after the making of that video is if he got hit by a bus.

Funny, my first thought was: "Note to self: you can get a chick to marry you if she thinks you're dying."

Reading your post, I thought: "Oh yeah, I guess it could be one who's already your girlfriend."

The only way? No other complications could happen with a very sick person? I mean, you obviously know a bit about what you're talking about but seems to me that type of knowledge / experience would also lend itself to an open mind about other things that may have happened.

It wasn't about consummation, it was about children.  He had children, so bil is off the hook.  If child less, then bro is suppose to impregnate her and the children would be deemed children of dead husband.  I have sil's whom I am glad that one, that rule is no longer applied and two, they had kids so I would still be off the hook.

I read the article and saw there was a daughter, but I always interpreted that as needing a male heir to prevent levirate marriage. I'm didn't think that a daughter counted because women were valued less as offspring and couldn't carry on the fathers name to the next generation. Plus inheritance issues applying only to women.

"If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead man shall not be married outside the family to a stranger. Her husband's brother shall go in to her and take her as his wife and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her. And the first son whom she bears shall succeed to the name of his dead brother, that his name may not be blotted out of Israel.

He may be in makeup... hard to tell how much they did to make this look as good as possible.  Also, the whole thing was probably very stressful for someone in poor health with who knows how many complications, and sometimes people do seem to give up after they get whatever they were hanging on for.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't accelerate their schedule earlier, since they were trying to get this done, and have this while he wasn't quite so far gone.  Why let the time go by, risk him dying before it is done, and wait until he is in much worse health and even less able to enjoy the ceremony?  Plus, now the pictures and videos probably aren't even a nice memory/reminder - they're so close to his death and he's already in the hospital bed, tying it together even more.  They're probably even more painful.

It's the process of how liver cancer causes death that makes me feel this situation is unlikely.  People don't realize that natural death is a process that has stages.  The active dying process for someone with liver cancer is usually prolonged, it takes 48 hours up to a week in some cases.  To have died 10 hours from the time that video was taken, he would have already be in an active death stage and he obviously wasn't.  Even with a GI blockage or a bleed, death is seldom that quick and he hasn't even started yet.

Pretty much everything everyone thinks they know about death and dying is completely wrong.

Think they anticipated the wedding; there was a little girl there in a wreath and surgical mask.
She was referred to as 'the couple's daughter'.

Don't know if that technically counts as consummation or not....

Years back I read a couple of articles [citation needed] that put forth the concept that many elderly/terminal patients will hang on until a special day/specific event (marriage, birth of a child, birthday, holiday) then "let go" after the event occurs. I guess this is an example of having something to look forward to and/or maintaining hope for the future.

Or he didn't die of liver problems.  It was stage 4 cancer--widely spread.  Maybe a secondary tumor actually did him in.

My father had kidney cancer.  While it's not known exactly how it got him (there was no question the tumor got him, no need to find out exactly how) it wasn't kidney failure.

Yup, there's a huge spike in deaths just after "one last christmas" and "until the New Year".
