I don't even want to open the article because the man could not possibly look as cool as I imagine him to be. I don't want to shatter that illusion.

Good for them for at least trying to eliminate the barriers to post-incarceration employment. The correctional-industrial complex has created an underclass.

If I'm the employer, I'm damned sure going to consider criminal history.

Big thing would be violent vs nonviolent felony.

If you did the crime and then did the time, I would still be willing to hire, but I as an employer should never be denied background information that could legitimately affect the job.

Not that any of those people actually broke the law or anything......

I was convicted of prescription fraud in 1997. In 2000, I was the first convicted felon to be (willingly) hired by GEICO in Fredericksburg, VA. Felons typically cannot be bonded to sell insurance, which was their rationale. I did not want to be on the phones/sell insurance, I had impressed my supervisor there (I was working for a temp agency) and they gave me a chance.

/GEICO will not hire someone convicted of a DUI either.

"Ban the Box"

I've been informally banned from the box for some time now.

"Curtis Boogeeman-Soul, a local disc jockey, said employers should consider the person in front of them when hiring, not their criminal history."

The person in front of them is a criminal Curtis, that's the point.

Not that anyone expects anything else from the trash that support the tarholz....

Been there and had to explain myself, and got denied because of the job.  I took that, went elsewhere, gained experience and got past all that.  Last time I had to list it it included the question, how will this impact your work here?  I laughed because I doubt blowing up a mail box with fireworks at age 18 will have a negative impact upon my job 20 years later.

Today I would have probably gotten weapons of mass destruction charges.

I agree that the big dividing line is violent / non-violent.  Also would you hire an embezzler to count your money?  Sorry that reality doesn't fit your "ology" degree, I am sure it makes you the smartest burger flipper in chapel hell.

Maybe you should stop supporting policies that put so many people in jail, then.
