Someone else complain about this list, I'm too hungover.

2014-06-26 09:25:35 AM
I hate the Rose Tyler character. Completely ruined two seasons of Doctor Who. I love Christopher Eccleston, but I don't re-watch his tenure as The Doctor because I hate the Rose character so much.

2014-06-26 09:47:11 AM
A boyfriend saying good-bye to his girlfriend on a beach is something I can see on the OC.  How is that scene better than Picard and the flood lights?  The reveal of Locutus of Borg?  Picard's defense of Data in Measure of a Man?

2014-06-26 10:57:04 AM
Earthshock.

AKA the only time Adric was ever likable,

2014-06-26 11:03:38 AM
I am not a Rose fan, in part just 'cause of the way she treats Mickey.  And the whole "DOCTOR'S TWU WUV" thing they kept going on with, which is admittedly not the character's fault, but still.

/Also liked Donna more *BECAUSE* she wasn't in love with 10, and was willing to call him out on stuff.
//Which 10 really, *REALLY* needed....

2014-06-26 11:16:12 AM
9's "why won't you just die!" speech was much better.

As was 10's reunion with Sarah Jane.

//There's little that isn't better than anything that includes Rose.

Felgraf: Also liked Donna more *BECAUSE* she wasn't in love with 10, and was willing to call him out on stuff.

Yep.  Donna had chutzpah which frankly, certain Companions utterly lacked (being a brassy little chav is not "chutzpah").

Yeah, the Rose character's probably one of the most annoying in the run. Wasn't a big fun of her and Mickey. There are so many more options than the stupid goodbye scene.

mjbok: 9's "why won't you just die!" speech was much better.

Dang.  THIS!

I'm working my way through the classic Who episodes that I can find online, and I'm up to Image of the Fendhal (4th Doctor).
There have been SO MANY companions who were better than Rose!  I'm loving Leela, and not for the obvious reasons.  A monster appears, and she doesn't scream for help, she pulls her knife and the Doctor has to stop her from gutting it.  No damsels in distress HERE.  Jaimie/2nd Doctor was also great combo.

The last act in DS9 "Waltz". Truly shows how far Dukat fell since he was in charge of Bajor. True that he was a civilized type of genocidal dictator, but this episode he let's it ALL out. Great performance.

Another Donna fan here.  And that why I never liked Martha.  We just did the moon-eyed crush thing, don't drop another one on us.

/hope Capaldi gets someone better than The Impossibly-Bland Girl before the next season is out

An actual ordinary girl would be a nice change of pace from the specialest girl in the Universe, which was something refreshing about Donna until, of course, that had to change.

This^ Martha was so annoying and Donna isn't afraid to straighten the Doctor out when he needs it.

I'm so glad that Day of the Doctor figured out a way to have Billie Piper appear without her actually being Rose. It worked out really well.

Yeah, RTD never seemed to know what exactly to do with Mickey. There's one good outing with him in The Girl in the Fireplace where he and Rose have kind of a prototype version of the Amy/Rory relationship going and then he's disposed of the very next adventure on the alternate Earth.

Spock's death in Wrath of Khan? John Crichton reliving his mom's last days? Hal 9000's last talk with Dr. Chandra?

Wow...two episodes of Five in one headline?  I salute you,  subby.  Five doesn't get nearly enough love.

2014-06-26 12:56:12 PM
The last scene of the TS TNG episode 'Inner Light'. It was when Riker said to Picard that they found 'this' in the probe. It was the flute he learned to play in his other life. Picard's facial reaction when he brought the flute to chest started to make me well up.

2014-06-26 01:00:12 PM
I think the best/worst goodbyes in Doctor Who companion history were:

Adric:  "Adric!!!"  BOOM!  "Adric... Doctor..?"  Sob. END CREDITS.

Peri:  "Oh, and she didn't die, Doctor. She actually married King Yrcanos. Sorry for the whole "making you think she was dead" thing. Our bad."

Mel:  Unceremoniously pawned off to Sabalom Glitz when a less-screamy, less-annoying model came along.

Ace: If you don't count audio plays,  we have no idea what happened to her!  In her last televised appearance there's no indication that she show is ending. In the next appearance of Seven (the American movie pilot), there's no Ace, no mention of Ace, no reference to what may have happened to her... Nothing! She's just gone.

Sorry, but The Caves of Androzani  is laughably terrible. Between the acting and the FX, it makes the old Godzilla films look like LoTR.

There were much better moments in the 50th anniversary episode. Just for a start.

And the top 10 list includes no Star Trek at all... but has Avengers on it. What the actual fark.

As much as I loved Rose Tyler as a starry-eyed companion, I think they could have chosen better for the 50th Anniversary.  And, quite honestly, I hope they no longer use Billie as a "go to" in order to drum up interest in an episode.

/Rose's story has been told and there is no need to revisit the character.
//That is, unless, the Doctor crosses over into that Universe again
//Meh, don't bother

Out of all the moments on Firefly, when Mal kicked the guy into the engine was the one that made it?  Huh.  How about when River picks up Kaylee's gun and kills three guys with her eyes closed?  Or when Mal shot Dobson over Simon's head?  Jayne and his new hat? The myriad of one-liners?  Wash playing with the dinosaurs?

I don't know that I'm throwing out the best ones here, but something has to be better than kicking a guy into an engine.

Great episode!

I really, really disliked Donna as a companion.  So noisy and loud...reminded both my friend and I of a specific co-worker....ugh...

/don't care for Rose either

The Whole "Object's in Space Episode"

Jubal Early: You know, with the exception of one deadly and unpredictable midget, this girl is the smallest cargo I've ever had to transport. Yet by far the most troublesome. Does that seem right to you?
Dr. Simon Tam: What'd he do?
Jubal Early: Who?
Dr. Simon Tam: The midget.
Jubal Early: Arson. The little man loved fire.

That's my second favorite episode, right behind Out of Gas, but yeah! Hell, Jubal Early gets his own threads sort of accidentally around Fark. So much better than Crow goes into an engine.

Mal: Looks can be deceiving.
Jayne: Not as deceiving as a low-down dirty... deceiver!
Mal: Well said. Wasn't that well said, Zoe?
Zoe: Had a kind of poetry to it, sir.

But it has a hell of an ending, which was a hell of a moment.

Say what you will about poor Colin Baker's sixth Doctor, but he had the best introduction/regeneration scene in the classic series, and maybe of all the Doctors.

/and he had the worst exit scene, which was Sylvester McCoy in a bad blonde wig dying from a bump on the head and Mel's carrot juice.

^This. I have a few friends who, of course, like Doctor Who and they are all absolutely in love with the character of Rose.

Really? I mean, I thought Rose was ok, and I thought that scene was ok, but I wouldn't have picked it as the most iconic New Who scene.

The "most iconic" scene of NuWho so far is the "when-I-was-a-little-girl-I-had-an-imaginary-friend" opening sequence.

Gad damn, but I grew to hate that.

That's the way I feel about Amy Pond.

IMO, she not only made the majority of two and a half seasons unwatchable, but strangled Matt Smith's run as The Doctor in its crib because the show became The Amy Pond Show for two and a half years. I was hoping he would have a season as the star of the show after the crimson horror was gone, but...

Well, we've got Capaldi coming in, so things are looking good.

And where did that dislike of the character really start?
