I liked my headline better ;) Guess it hurt too many feelings though. Anyway, here's the rundown for the day

Group G: (12 PM)

Germany has a superior goal difference, and should make it through to the round of 16 no matter what, but this Cup has been full of surprises. The US should also make it through and will with at least a draw against Germany, but even if they lose, and Ghana win, Ghana still has to make up for the -1 GD to USA +1.

Portugal still have a chance statistically but with a -4 GD, it's really not likely, unless they crush Ghana and USA lose by a lot, or Germany lose by all the points ever.

Group H: (4 PM)

Belgium are through, and have South Korea (still in it... but chances are low) to face, so they should easily wrap up first place. Algeria vs Russia will be the interesting one here. Algeria has 2 points over Russia, putting them as the current go-aheads, but if Russia win and South Korea is held back, Russia will go through. That's the match to keep your eye on for this group.

After that, we're all done with group stages, and we'll see who's on to the round of 16 beginning Saturday with Brazil vs Chile, and Colombia vs Uruguay

At my office they're going to project the game on one of the walls in our big open room and told the rest of us it's ok to have on our phone or monitor.

Are Boateng and Muntari that good?  I remember Boateng getting subbed off during the Ghana-Germany game.

Yeah, not going to happen.

Portugal scored one goal based on skill (in the US game) in the first 2 matches, the other was a gift.

Portugal is not going to hang 5 on Ghana. Their most realistic shot is to win their game 3-0 and hope the US loses by 2 or more goals.

Germany, don't get me wrong here. I like you, I really do. My ancestors hail from your hallowed land, and you have my favorite soccer player (Schweinsteiger!) On your team.

However, today I'm rooting for the USA.

America! fark yeah.

And Suarez is punished.

The player Luis Suárez is to be suspended for nine (9) official matches. The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming FIFA World Cup™ fixture between Colombia and Uruguay on 28 June 2014. The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay's next FIFA World Cup match(es), as long as the team qualifies, and/or in the representative team's subsequent official matches in accordance with art. 38 par. 2a) of the FDC.

I'm surprised. I really am.

What a joke. Deserved a lot worse. He's gonna appeal and get a lesser suspension, I'm sure.

Does the four month suspension from all other play start today, or when the EPL does?

9 international games, 4 month ban from the sport, and can't even go into a stadium during a match.

That's a strong banhammer.

I'm guessing those 9 included qualification games, and possibly even friendlies.

Unless they're banning him from Continental and World Cup matches, then I think he got off easy

9 games are just World Cup matches. 4 months is all football, including domestic leagues.

Nope. No delay. They are gonna play at the scheduled time. Even if Micheal Phelps has to be the new starter.

Of course it had to be pouring in Brazil. It's set up like the perfect movie. The seemingly unbeatable foreign team (who are German, for a nice touch), the coach who said we'd never make it this far, who is now facing down his countrymen, the plucky heroes who lost one of their stars early, but is managing to fight on. They meet on the pitch in dramatic rainfall, the field more mud than grass, can the Yanks beat the unstoppable German machine?
