Thank you for your insight, Emmitt.

Manziel may or may not pan out, but I'm guessing that he'll never be the glorious failure that JaMarcus the Hutt was.

It's going to be watching the early video footage from Fran Tarkenton where he runs about like a sugar-high rugrat while the defense runs after him and then there's a wounded-duck pass near the end that improbably is caught for a touchdown. Only without the touchdown part and more of the QB getting whacked violently into the ground.

Sherman is smart and would intercept the shiat out of Manziel but he's not a big open-field hitter

The fact that he wasn't a number 1 overall pick assures that.

As a Browns' fan, I'm glad they didn't take Manziel with the higher of their first round picks. I realized they were going to grab him when they kept trading back up as he kept sliding further down in the draft. Not happy about it at all; I think like a lot of people he made his living off of outrunning defenses, and that won't be happening very often in the NFL, not to mention he's not big enough to take a lot of hits without ending up on IR.

2014-06-26 04:01:23 PM
This might just be the strategy of the Browns.  Get all the D Backs in such a white hot frothing murder Manziel psychosis that they all just screw their assignments and just blitz on every play regardless of the call.

Ok so the Browns lose to the Ravens today 21-9.  Amazingly they gained over 600 yards on offense, 580 of which were off the 40 roughing the passer penalties.

He's in Cleveland.  He'll be pounded into the ground behind an ineffective offensive line, injured, and will join the long list of QBs whose careers have died there.

Be fair, man. They don't run block very well, but our line isn't that bad when it comes to protection. A QB could do a lot worse than having Joe Thomas and Alex Mack blocking for him.

When has Shernan ever hit anyone?

Anyway, he's not Jamarcus. Russell busted out of the league due to sloth, he had the physical tools. Manziel is going to bust out because he doesn't have NFL caliber physical tools, he's a head case, and he got drafted by Cleveland.

Not to mention.... who's career died there?  Cleveland's problem has always been never getting a good QB in the first place, not getting a good QB and damaging him once he gets there.       I'd say the only QB they 'damaged' was Couch, because they were an expansion team with literally zero offensive line.

This. We've got a future Hall Of Famer at LT and a Pro-Bowl center, with Bitonio coming out of this draft and Mitchell Schwartz still being a decent-to-good RT. The weakest spot on the line is at RG, and that spot is still better than it was last year, just by virtue of dumping Shaun Lavaou and Oniel Cousins.

This could actually work out well.  Johnny is uncoachable, and Cleveland sucks at coaching.

Johnny Football is what, like, 5' 10" outside of cleats or something? He can't be JaWalrus, he's far too small. He'll be his own entitled letdown, there will be no comparisons, he will be the new measuring stick for failure.

He'll only wish he has a career as good as Ryan Leaf!

It depends to a large degree on how and when he becomes the starting QB. If he becomes the starting quarterback quickly then I think he is dead meat. If he has time to learn the throwing skills he doesn't currently have then he might make a decent, but not great, QB.

That's not a hit. That's a textbook tackle. Notice how Sherman got low, put his head on the ball, and also wrapped him up? That's a tackle. He didn't turn himself into a cruise missile a la Rodney Harrison.

oh man, THIS.   sanders was MUCH better than smith, with a MUCH worse cast of supporting characters.  you put smith in detroit and sanders in dallas with that offense, and sanders would have set a record that would have lasted forever.  especially if he had played as long as smith did.  how many yards would smith have had without that offensive line and the moose?

Was about to comment something similar and then I saw you already have it covered.  I cannot stand when people talk about how bad the O-Line is.  Statistically ranked in the top half and we just added Bitonio who could be a stud, 1st rd grade by many analysts.  Even before the draft if you think the O-Line is terrible you clearly do not watch football on Sundays.
