She is pretty much a completely pointless character so far in the books anyway. And she's had what? Two or three scenes in total?

Good. The less undead walking around Westeros, the better. I wish that Martin never introduced warging and bringing people back to life in the series.

Somebody said that they think Bran is going to warg into a dragon. I sincerely hope that when he does it, it backfires and the dragon wargs into him. Or maybe his head just explodes. That would be good too.

Bran is going to be a farking tree at the end of the series. How is he going to pull that off?

I thought the warging was kind of cool, especially with how the wildlings use it for recon.

Bringing people back from the dead just feels lazy and reduces the consequences of death in the story.

That means they're going to be inventing an entire season's arc for both Jaime and Brienne, since Stoneheart is the crux of that whole story. Removing her also disrupts quite a few theories about Lightbringer and the Grand Northern Conspiracy. If those pan out, they'll have to be handled differently.

Not to mention without her, there's no real reminder that dead people can rise again with non-Other goals except for Beric Dondarrion way back when, which ties into the fate of a certain character at the end of the last book.

I read somewhere there's only 3 or 4 more chapters involving bran at all... something tells me he's just going to end up controlling whatever wild creatures help battle the white walkers in the final battle...

They could just have it be Deric who does all the Frey-Murdering/Brieanne-hanging instead of Stoneheart. Heck in the books, she took over his band! No major changes necessary, and the producers can use an existing character rather than make a new one and discard an old one. Keeps things simple.

Wouldn't be the worst thing she did in pursuit of a crown.  In GOT there is dead and there is dead it is a matter of degrees.

spcMike: Can someone explain how the Targareans have dragon's blood in them? Did they f*ck a dragon ages ago?

Magic basically. The Valyrians were a bunch of shepherds until they tamed the first dragons and started their empire of dragons and magic. Eventually their homeland blew up in a cataclysm, and the only Valyrian house left was the Targaryens, since they were chilling on a different continent. They had three dragons and conquered Westeros with them a few hundred years before the story starts.

There's not really an explanation, just magic and bloodlines.

I don't mind Beric Dondarrion and Lady Stoneheart being brought back- the manner in which it happens makes it clear that this is not a desirable state of affairs.  What bothers me is the fact that Martin sets up and teases deaths that are not really deaths.  Davos, Brienne, Arya, Daenerys even, and most likely Jon.

Unlike other fantasy books, they go hundreds of pages without mentioning a spell or a mythical creature. Most people in the book don't believe in magic, giants or zombies. The strength of the books is that they work on a non-fantasy level. It's not a crazy complaint to want a medieval political drama, but he could just read the Accursed Kings series.

The Arya death tease was good, though. It's a shame they left it out of the show. I read about people quitting the books at that point.

I keep hearing this about all of the main characters: that there are only a few chapters left here and there. So what the hell do the last two books spend a thousand pages on??

The fantasy elements are nice and all, but I don't watch GoT for CGI dragons and skeletons.  I watch it for the drama and, for all my biatching about it, it's interesting to watch a show where plot armor doesn't protect half or more of the main cast.

Well, that and Emelia Clark's naked self.

It's ambiguous where the dragon magic comes from.  Because it's associated with fire, it could be from R'hllor, the fire god that's big in Essos.  But there are also little clues in the books that the magic is from Assahai, an area we haven't seen yet.  It's also possible that the two magics could somehow come from the same source, whatever that is.

The Targaryens left Valyria as part of a prophecy, which could make their bloodline somehow special or "chosen."  Who chose them (and why) isn't clear.

There's this thing called the Book of Lost Books that is supposed to have in it some of the prophecy that caused them to leave for Westeros.  That might shed some light on what they are supposed to be doing and what exactly the other Valyrians were doing that caused Valyria to blow up.  Or it could just be more gobbledygook.
