headline doesn't really match article or am I missing the joke?

The medical examiner said the body had been there between one and two years.

Subby should be ashamed and go sit in the corner.

Ehhh.... that area is kinda on the outskirts of Tucson, in a developed but sparsely developed area.  entirely plausible that no one noticed.  and, i'm a little surprised that the body wasn't disturbed by animals.  there's all kinds of wildlife in tucson, some the carnivorous kind.  my brother in law has pictures of wildcats on his deck and javelinas too, and he lives not far from that area.

He didn't cut any cables. He just tried to cut them. Systems can fault out and then restart on their own. If there are no further issues nobody will go and investigate.

He probably never got a chance to actually cut the power.

If he was electrocuted while trying to cut a live power line it's very likely he wasn't able to finish the cut.

We had a scrap metal thief around here who stole catalytic converters from cars. One day a dead body with a hacksaw was found crushed under a car that had fallen off a jackstand, and suddenly the thefts stopped. Funny how that happens.

Why are they wasting resources on an autopsy and DNA test? He's a thief being bad at his chosen profession, even as a bleeding heart liberal I find identifying him a waste.

Because even though he may have been a piece of shiat, he may also have been listed as a missing person somewhere, or had outstanding debts or assets and so forth and knowing he's dead can help tie up a lot of loose ends for people legally speaking.  I'm not saying he was a piece of shiat, but based on this evidence it does seem like a possibility.

Plus someone may want the remains and we need to know who to contact to give them the opportunity before burying them in a potter's field or national cemetery if they were a veteran.

We had one that was stealing wire and other assorted metals from decommissioned power stations until he found one that only looked decommissioned.

I wonder if somebody might have just happened to have come across the scene of the guy underneath the car hacking away and decided that it might be a good time to take a break and lean against the car for a moment.
