Dennis DeYoung was too busy being pretentious to give a damn.

I'm quite certain that when I die, if I go to hell, it won't be anything by Sabbath or Maiden playing there, but more likely Blue Collar Man or Grand Illusion

these bears were living in a bad neighborhood, a "bearrio" if you will.

Bear down?!

2014-06-25 01:41:50 PM
Apparently one of the bears tried to take in the run and said it was time for me to fly . He was just rolling with the changes and had to keep pushin through the golde country triong to visit family at 157 Riverside Avenue  but then he got stuck in a tree, Ridin' the Storm Out. Good thing for them along came a Music Man and then he saved the bear saying I'll Keep on Loving You and I hope that you'll feel the same way, Say You Love Me or Say Goodnight.

Way to go, Speedwagon!

They knew the had to do something. They just couldn't fight the feeling anymore.

Ok, the image of the bears eating peanut butter sandwiches and chowing down on apples and watermelons as they bounce along to their new homes is just awesome. Pip, pip, cheerio and all that.

Since STYX and REO have been downgraded to playing state fairs and backyard birthday parties, it was simply a gesture of self-preservation.  (Would you like to be mauled by a bear while playing 'The Queen of Spades"?)

/Saw them twice in concert
//enjoyable show
///Tommy Shaw STILL looks like a teenage boy

Of all the dinosaur rock bands of the early 80s REO sucks the least. They play fairly straight forward guitar driven rock and roll without the pretentiousness of Styx. It was when the felt the need to release a power ballad like every other band did after Chicago went all Peter Cetera that spelled their downfall

Nah, hell would be having to listen to four hours of CPR instructions from my boss.

Which I listened to recently, I still have a nervous twitch...

The art rock bands of the early 80s were SUPPOSED to be pretentious.  That was the point.  IT WAS THE 80s, MAN!  Everyone was pretentious.  Big hair, outrageous clothes, lotsa coke, flashy cars, pretentious rock stars....

Power ballads are where the money is. I bet that was their biggest single.

I hate Chicago and that whiny Peter Cetera.  I wouldn't see them if somebody gave me free tickets and a ride to the arena.

Oh, no. I'm pretty sure REO always sucked. Styx too, to a lesser degree. It's nothing that couldn't be mitigated by heavy doses of AC/DC, The Cult, Quiet Riot, DK, etc., etc..
REO always felt like punishment. "Great! Now some boring arsehole is going to sing about their feelings...no wonder people cut themselves."

What's with all the Styx and Reo hate ?

When I was a young Capt. without my own lawn to yell at you guys to keep off of, I loved those bands ! Also Supertramp, and Genesis.
Still do when I'm in a nostalgic mood, though Styx's attempt to be reborn with Gowan and minus DeYoung was a travesty.

/Big hair bands of the 70s and 80s rule !

I guess it takes all kinds. They remind me of that sound that a mosquito makes in the middle of the night when I'm trying to sleep. To each, there own.

Styx is awesome... and I was born in '79. Their new stuff is pretty awful though... I mean, if you buy a newer CD, you'll hate it, throw it down, and a few weeks later pick it up.. it takes some getting used to, but it's not *entirely* awful... just different and not even close to their best stuff.

I have to say, as far as music goes, their early stuff had some decent lyrics.

What I was surprised about when I saw them in person for the first time was how *normal* they looked... not a bunch of good looking guys... it was clear they got where they were on talent. If only they didn't try to play half of their set as new music, they might get booked more.

"Obligator" is the name of my Styx cover band. We only play "Mr. Roboto," for two hours straight.

As an aficionado of the obscure and the instrumental, I always enjoyed Speedwagon's "Unidentified Flying Tuna Trot" off  You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish. And Styx Equinox was one of my first favorite albums. They both had good and bad runs.

Saw REO last summer at the Wildflower Festival in Dallas (well, Richardson technically) and they put on a hell of a show.

Good on them for rescuing the bears. bears. Bears.
