It has the word "bank" in it, so I expect they know what it is.

I think we should focus on the importing and forget about the exporting.

The trade bank, first established in 1934, assists the sale of U.S. exports with loans, guarantees and other financial products.

They really hate FDR's legacy of success.

The Tea Party has hated the bank for years.  There's no rational to it.  Even though business loves it, it's government and therefore it's not free market or something.

He even pushed the minimum wage, integration of the armed forces, integration of industry, he set up tva and built massive infrastructure projects and he defeated Hitler and Japan while presidenting as a democrat. Truly history's greatest monster

It's really going to widen the split within their party.  It could potentially result in another government shut down, too.

Ain't no party like a Tea Party party because a Tea Party party just don't stop!

How can they be divided over it?  I'd be amazed if any of the congressmen know what it does, and I can absolutely guarantee none of their teahadi constituents do.  By their logic therefore, it MUST be wasteful government spending and needs to be cut.

I just read an article about how Texas is f*cking over the entire state's water allocation. The laws are fubar, the judicial actions are fubar and that state is going to be in a huge world of trouble. But that's ok, because Rick Perry brought some jobs and these companies can now run the state. Small Government and all. For the people.

This is a direct shot aimed at the financial engine of the GOP.  And the worst part about it is that it's true and the GOP knows it.  As does the Chamber of Commerce.

If the GOP loses their business aspect, they're finished, well and truly.  No funding worth mentioning and abandoned to the social conservatives and religious zealots.

Well the founding fathers would have never made a federal bank!! That power is not in the constitution!!!

Here is where some of the "founding fathers" made a federal bank: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Bank_of_the_United_States

Texas and their ilk are just going to bring down the federal boot harder in the long run. We'll have states in name only in a few generations. They'll be run closer to provinces.

Krugman addressed this recently.

So it looks quite likely that the Tea Party will claim a scalp from the business lobby, and kill the Export-Import Bank. And there is a case for doing away with the lender - except that this is the worst possible time for it.

Once again, the Tea Party shows that it knows absolutely nothing about economics, taxation, or anything with numbers, and everything boils down to "Gubbermint bad!"

FTFA:

Asked if he believes shutting down Ex-Im would harm the economy, Boehner replied, "I don't know."

Boner is as incompetent as Republicans believe Obama is.

I do ultimately believe that the Tea Party causes infighting here and there, but they ultimately fall in line.  With that being said, it is interesting to see that the TP 2.0 is decidedly more populist, and at least rhetorically, unafraid to bite the Big Business hand that feeds them.

Pretty much.

The business wing of the GOP just wants low taxes on business and the super rich.  The TP would happily roll back every social advance we've made over the last one hundred years.

One thing I don't understand is even the "pro-business" policies of the GOP have lead the stock market to plummet. These people are so myopic that the seem willing to vote for a few points reduction in their tax bracket and take a DOW drop of 50%. That's idiotic!!

And he was absolutely right.

And he hasn't done ANYTHING to reform it meaningfully to change that (except for increase its lending limit, of course).

That's because the rich don't play games with the stock market with real money.  They may play games with spending cash, but their 'real' money is socked away in stable markets that are never in any real danger, such as government bonds.  They may propagate the myth that people get filthy rich off the stock market, but far more people lose everything than get rich by playing with stocks.

If anything, the only people who get rich off the stock market are the brokerages that do the buying and selling for the saps who think that they'll get rich off of stocks.  And they certainly don't mind wiping out the Middle Class idiots who blow their savings on the market.

The rich in this country simply don't want any more competition at the top of the ladder.

Ex-Im has long been one of the most notorious examples of Big Gov/Big Biz welfare. This is actually really surprising any politician is even admitting Ex-Im exists. Coca-Cola (that teary eyed penniless orphan of the drinks business) isn't going to be happy losing their free marketing assistance in Pakistan or whatever.

I don't agree with the Tea Party on much, but when they're right, they deserve credit and praise.  The Export-Import Bank is one of the textbook cases of crony capitalism, and it reflects surprisingly well on the Tea Party that they're willing to take on Republican-friendly special interests.

All the talk about "a rift in the Republican Party" is baloney.  Not a single real-life voter cares about the Ex-Im Bank, and businesses aren't going to shift any donations in response to this.

Now, if only they would take on TBTF, the entire Tea Party movement will not have been for naught.
