And it took a selfie. Goddammit, internet.

So what has it found so far? A lot of dirt I hope.

sprong89: And it took a selfie. Goddammit, internet.

At least it didn't make duck lips

Mugato: So what has it found so far? A lot of dirt I hope.

It found a dry riverbed, which is now basically a lot of dirt.  And it found chemicals that life would require.  And lots of dirt.

Also, I'm not sure what it's trying to get away with, everyone recognizes MySpace angles at this point.  Fatty.

Good one, Subs.

Something's wrong,  It's not a selfie if you can't see the arm--or a mirror--or tits.
/Or was it snapped by LGM?

2014-06-25 10:15:21 PM
Yeah, that pic won't be used as proof it's really just a model on earth. No way.

2014-06-25 10:21:40 PM
One year, dozens of selfies, and not a single duckface.

TIL: the Curiosity rover is male.

Yeah, I was puzzled by the lack of arm for a minute myself.

Some of the explanation has to do with the way that Curiosity's arm isn't like a human arm (it rotates in only four directions) and also the need to stitch all the images together so that very few seams are visible

Is that in Earth years or Mars years?

So basically it crashed in the Permian Basin near Odessa? Good to know.

FTA: Abby Phillip is a general assignment national reporter for the Washington Post.

I first read that as "...gender assigned neutral reporter..." and was very confused.

Anyway, hooray for good engineering!

So they shoop'd it all out. Well, that explains some of the weird perspective.

That is just way too farking cool.  So anyway, where is the arm? I get that it's a composite and they got rid of the arm, but where in this pic does the arm go?  I'd expect a little blurred out bit or something butI don't see it anywhere.

Most modern movies about Mars suck. Mission to Mars, Red Planet, Mars Needs Moms, Mars Attacks (I actually liked that one), Invaders from Mars, John Carter....Mars is box office poison. We should move on to Venus.

Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids,
In fact it's cold as hell!
And there's no one there to raise them if you did,
And all this science I don't understand,
It's just my job five days a week,
A rocket man, a rocket man...
And I think it's gonna be a long long time...
