(Deadspin)   Colorado Rockies discover that when the umpires take four minutes on a replay review, it still doesn't guarantee they won't blatantly blow the call   (deadspin.com) divider line 4

The problem is that the umpires are pissed that their word is no longer dogma and they are trying to undermine the replay system by 1, using the max amount of time on every call even when its straight up clear show 1 replay 10 seconds long like this incident. and 2 they intentionally get the call wrong after wasting that time because they don't get punished for abusing the system and they want to discourage managers from challenging every opportunity they get.

Basically the umpires are STILL the problem. They need to do it independently like the NHL. fire it back to a New York office were NON umpires look at the play and decide. then Inform the on field umpires the result. do not let them have a say.

It's not the time of a replay that is slowing everything down. It's when the farking batter gets out of the batter's box on every farking pitch. It's when time is called a half dozen times during an at bat.

The rule they need is to require batters to stay in the box, ready to go, from the moment they walk up to the plate. The only exception would be if they dodged a ball coming for them and need to get up and get back in. No screwing around between pitches. No scenic walks in between foul balls. You only leave the box when the ball is in play, you walked, or you got out. That's it.

No, your gloves don't need adjusting. If you weren't in the dirt from a brushback you don't have anything needing walking off. You're fine, princess- get your prima donna ass back to work.

MLB needs to fine or suspend umpires who are deliberately undermining the replay system.

The umps don't make review decisions. They aren't listening to Shostakovitch on those headphones, you know.

That said, more replays everywhere, please. Pitch tracker for balls and strikes, so we don't get parallax calls on pitches obviously out of the strike zone because the ump lines up off centre for every toss. Why rely on meatware when we have cameras capable of watching every damned thing we do? Because authority in a militaristic society must not be questioned? It's a little bit of hypocritical theatre.
