Will it be a flock of BIH goals? Can Argentina unleash la furia on Nigeria? Please. Will France cross Ecuador to win it? Can the Swiss out beige the Hondurans? All this and more next up on a very special episode of World Cup: After School Special.

Huh, when did you post this? Didn't see one earlier.

Anyway, copying from my thread

Biggest news:   http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/dcunited/fifa-charges-luis-suarez -for-biting-incident/2014/06/24/f899b240-fc1b-11e3-b8bf-54b8afb537b6_s tory.html?wpsrc=AG0003357%20" target="_blank" style="max-height: 1000000px; color: rgb(61, 61, 255); text-decoration: none; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgb(255, 94, 153); line-height: 17.23400115966797px;">http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/dcunited/fi fa-charges-luis-suare z -for-biting-incident/2014/06/24/f899b240-fc1b-11e3-b8bf-54b8afb537b6_s tory.html?tid=sm_fb

Suarez has been charged by FIFA for the biting incident. Penalty can range between 2 matches and 2 years. Teams have until 5 pm today to present evidence, and the decision will be made BEFORE Uruguay's match on Saturday.

Matches: Group E (4 pm)

Honduras vs Switzerland, and France vs Ecuador.

France has a 3 point lead over Ecuador and Switzerland and a 6 point lead over Honduras, and a +6 GD so it's almost impossible that they'd be getting out. They'll be playing Ecuador who is in second by a +0 goal difference. Switzerland is at -2, and Honduras would need to get a win and a large win to make up for their -4 GD.

So if France takes no mercy on Ecuador, Switzerland may realistically make it through, but I wouldn't have much hope for Honduras.

In Group F: (12 ET)

Argentina is already in, Bosnia is already out. Unfortunately the two teams fighting for survival are not playing each other. Nigeria has the harder opponent, but also has 4 points to Iran's 1 and a goal difference of +1 to -1, so Iran would need to win and make up the GD to overtake Nigeria, which shouldn't be too hard against poorly performing Bosnia. Iran haven't shown much offense though, but their defense has been particularly surprising, so if they can get their shots in when they need them, there might be a surprise win unless Argentina decides it's not even going to try to take first place and just settles for 2nd.

Predictions (I suck at this)
NGA 0 - 2 ARG
BIH 0 - 0 IRN
HON 1 - 0 SUI
ECU 0 - 1 FRA

2014-06-25 11:13:37 AM
Banked on a ECU 1 - FRA 3 result. Hoping for an IRN upset qualification for the round of 16, just for laughs.

2014-06-25 11:14:02 AM
This is what I want to see out of the early games:

Iran beats BIH 1-0
Argentina beats Nigeria 1-0
(This scenario will work as long as both games have the same score and Iran and Argentina win by exactly 1 goal each)

What this means:

Iran and Nigeria will have 4 points each
They will have an equivalent goal differential ( zero )
They would have scored the same number of goals (1 each with a 1-0 score line today)
Iran and Nigeria tied their game 0-0 ... and all the statistical ties that entails.

The choice of the second team through from the group would come down to "drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee"

2014-06-25 11:14:15 AM
Ah, which to watch which to watch. So in the noon games, ARG-NGA are playing for 1st and 2nd, which could be exciting. While a good performance by Iran could get them in, Bosnia shouldn't put up much of a fight.  So...ARG-NGA?

And in the later game....crap, I have no idea. Ecuador putting up a fight to stay in or the other two fighting it out, hoping France gives them a gift?

I read that earlier today. I still don't think it'll prevent him from playing the rest of the way. If they are knocked out, then FIFA will ban hammer him. That's my opinion.

I disagree 100%. FIFA will look foolish if they don't take immediate action

ECU-FRA: 1-2

Mr, or Mrs, Or Mr. Mrs. Eclectic can not work today due to a super serious medical condition which prevents him or her or them from working today, and in fact, Eclectic really just needs a long weekend, so we'll see you Tuesday.

I actually blocked out times of the US matches on my calender...didn't put anything in there, just made it more difficult for things to be scheduled :)

ECU/FRA feels like it might be the better match for the afternoon, but not sure about the morning match yet.

And yes, I will still have at least one on in the background as I dial into these stupid meetings.

Suarez biting and the referee calls have turned this world cup from the beautiful game to a farce.  I've seen less biting and better referees at kids clubsoccer games- certainly at high school games. FIFA should put a referee in the booth with head set down to field judge.  Of course FIFA won't do anything because they are busy making too much money to rock the boat.  The referees are always part of the game, and usually ruin at least one match but this world cup they have been terrible in many matches.

It's too much of a job for one person, the players all know how to avoid being seen while playing dirty.  It's the biggest stage in the world and they insist on playground officiating.

Since I can't quite figure it out: Is the maximum FIFA ban 2 years in all competitions or just international duty?

I'm still reveling Greece's victory yesterday, and I don't have any dogs in today's fights.

I'll say:

NGA-ARG : 1-2
BIH-IRN: 0-1
HON-SUI: 1-1
ECU-FRA: 1-3

Tomorrow's Group G action is where things are going to get really tense at work:

- I have one trollish co-worker rooting for Portugal and against the US, he's not even from Portugal.
- My boss is rooting for USA, but he's a jinx.
- Three sales reps for vendors are German, those smug bastards.

A United States win and a Ghana win that allows them to qualify for the 2nd spot would be farking amazing. A pipe dream, I know, for the US to beat Germany,  and I would gladly settle for US advancement, but anything else would be icing on the cake.

mainstreet62: US to beat Germany

The only way I see that happening is both teams lulled to sleep playing 90 minutes of passing drills, only for the US to turn it on unexpectedly in the last second. Any sooner, and Germany would go full strength to crush the US for failing to live up to their end of the deal.

You're probably right, I have minimal expectations of the US beating Germany in soccer.

I'm even on stage 3 after some shocks. Hopefully I can get into the positives and not the other way around.

I've got

Bos 1-2 Iran
Nig 0 - 4 Argentina
Ecu 1-3 France
Hon 1-2 Switz  (just changed this from my original prediction of a Honduras victory by 2, let's hope I didn't fark up with a last minute change again)

Do you have an app like IHeartRadio (or similar) where you could listen to a broadcast?

I don't know a particular station to direct you towards, the only one I get here is in Spanish. If you don't have at least a moderate knowledge, it would be really, really difficult to follow Andres Cantor calling a match. Until someone scores, that is. That part's kinda obvious.

I agree on the part about wanting the US to advance, and rooting for Ghana to advance would be a totally hilarious troll move (imagine the US and Ghana advancing from the Group of Death over Germany and Portugal), but I don't dislike Germany. Seeing Crynaldo weep big, salty tears would make me happy, however.
