YES! PINBALL THREAD!

Own a Black Knight 2000 and a Getaway. Eventual plan is a basement nerdcave with a couple more once I get a suitable house.

Also a plug for Farsight's Pinball Arcade on iOS/Android/PSN/Steam I think. 1-2 new tables every month, and they're on year 3 right now.

i once owned a skeeball table, bought it from an arcade for $100 when they were upgrading.  Everything worked, though the coin basket was always unlocked.

I would love to own a modern (within the last 20 years) table.  Some of my favorites were a Star Trek machine, Addams Family, and a whitewater rafting table from my student union building in college.  I'll get my chance to get a good table one day, I'm certain!

My favorites were Pinbot, Funhouse, Terminator 2, and Demolition Man (yes, the Stallone/Snipes movie).  Funhouse and Demolition Man were the only tables I ever "beat", if you will.

/from Soho down to Brighton, I must've played them all.

You know how when cities ban gambling there's some form of gambling that crops up in the underground?

Have you ever heard of an illegal pin-ball parlor?

I'm still surprised at how relatively cheap the games can be.

There's a few invitation only pinball clubs here. They're small and hosted by people who have 5-6 vintage ones in a gameroom/den/garage.

I paid my way through university playing pinball for money in the early 80's. Mostly against ginos and bored businessmen who made regular trips through Toronto. I could make $50 a night sometimes. OMG, for a engineering student with a crap part time job it was like manna from heaven. Well, except for the guy that turned out to be a mob hit man for the Commissos. lol

I can remember when I was around 3 or 4, my parents had gotten me a mini pinball machine, something like this one, but more fun looking.

Good start.

Maybe now they can legalize condoms, soy milk, and cross-dressing.

Oakland's got a hell of a lot of of old laws they don't normally enforce.  I don't understand why this one was a priority.

Did they outlaw all pinball or only those we used to call 'pay off' pinball machines. The ones that had no flippers and could give you multiple replays.

Used to love playing the old pay off machines but haven't seen one in 20 years ...

I love Pinball Arcade, but they cancelled the season pass for this year so I haven't gotten any of the machines until they restore it. Really don't want to pay $5 per table when I was able to get 15 or so for $30.

I've got all of the Farsight versions on a PS Vita, though I'm curious why The Addams Family game hasn't popped up yet. You'd think they would produce the most popular pinball game of all time as quickly as possible.

Hard to pick a favorite, though I feel the Williams machines most recall my youth.

2014-06-25 10:07:23 AM
Original pinball tables in no way resemble those we know today. They were gambling devices (not just occasionally used for this as the FA states). They were illegally in pool rooms in my hometown and the owners got by with the cops by putting signs on them that read "For Entertainment Only" -- well, this and paying off the cops.

That was sort of a dick move, I must admit. Hopefully they'll bring it back for Season 4.

And because a town with a pinball museum full of "contraband" pinball machines needs a video arcade to go with it, these guys started a museum for (not really) banned arcade games a few blocks away: http://www.highscoresarcade.com/
