I don't see the issue here.  Clearly the legislature is concerned that too many residents are getting farked over.

Nope, no issue with a group that is against abortion and birth control getting a ton of money to encourage people with unplanned pregnancies to not only go through the expense and health risks of pregnancy, but then either keep an unwanted baby or funnel more kids into the system and put them up for adoption.

Unreal.

If you keep people ignorant and poor long enough, some of them will become GOP voters.

This is intended to be a long term solution--more people means more tax revenue.

Do I need to be the one to point out the obvious? If you keep electing more conservatives and Republicans, this kind of thing will keep happening.

Get out and vote people. Not for your tribe. Not for some abstract ideology. Just vote for your own self interest. Then this crap stops.

I guess that's kinda like being-anti murder, to promote longer life.

in other words, unconnected and moronic. This isn't a battle for women, it's a battle against minorities, and a bunch of old-people's fear they're being out-breeded.

If they were really serious about increasing childbirth, they'd be campaigning for stricter labor laws surrounding maternity, insurance, etc. This.. this is forcing americans to live only how they dictate.

This is the same legislature that created opt-in abortion insurance... that no one in the state provides.

That didn't happen last year, however. Real Alternatives failed to see a single client or sign up one Michigan provider during the first eight months of the $700,000 contract, according to the Michigan Department of Community Health. Although Real Alternatives says it recently signed three providers, MDCH is unaware of them. The state has so far paid Real Alternatives less than $40,000 for expenses out of the $700,000 contract ending Sept. 30.

Nice work if you can get it.

Michigan is one of those states where the cities are predominantly blue and the boondocks are deep deep red. Country Mouse vs. City Mouse, and Country Mouse has been bellyaching for years how City Mouse cancels out their votes because there are more people in the cities than all of the rural areas combined.

Well, City Mouse blew off the 2010 election and Country Mouse didn't, and the idiots Country Mouse voted for are royal farking up the state.

But hey, none of that matters because they sure did stick it to the black guy and all those "inner city" voters that elected him.

I live in a rural part of this wretched place and it might as well be Arkansas as far as the "goober factor" is concerned. Businesses have Fox News on the teevee in the waiting room, gun rack having pick up trucks have racist bumper stickers on them, and the trailer parks full of welfare recips clog the county DHS offices daily. The roads are shiat, the infrastructure is falling apart and our Governor is a pawn of Dick DeVos of Amway Corp. who is our localized version of the Cartoon Villain Billionaire that manipulates and controls our state government.

Thankfully, I'm close enough to Canada and have friends there who have offered me asylum should I need it. I've already looked into property there for my retirement.

I have the sinking feeling Snyder is going to win another term and the legislature will remain unchanged as well. This WAS a nice state once...until the Republicans ruined it.

zappaisfrank: Michigan is one of those states where the cities are predominantly blue and the boondocks are deep deep red.

This is true basically everywhere in the country.  Republicans get bonus points if it's a former Confederate State and Democrats get bonus points for non-whites, but other than that, the whole red state/blue state thing is mostly rural majority state/urban majority state.

Can we not with this language? It's not cool when it's Glenn Beck calling progressives a cancer and it's just as not cool when it's applied to conservatives. This is the sort of language armed extreme ideologues latch onto and use to justify killing their (perceived) enemies. Don't help them focus that perception.

Guess you either don't live here or were asleep the whole time John Engler was governor, eh?

Granholm inherited a 14 billion dollar budget deficit from his fat ass and did her best to try to restore so many of the social services he cut to court favor to DeVos Almighty. She brought jobs TO Michigan, including the film industry that Snyder kicked to the curb. She beat DeVos because everyone who doesn't have their head up their ass knows what a scumbag he is. She brought renewable energy jobs here.

She was no Mary Poppins with the magic wand, but she was a damn sight better than Engler.

OK, they're "people with different opinions" that often have deleterious effects on the rest of society, and often the exact opposite effect as their mean-spirited and hateful-intent.  It sure would be nice if we could change their "different opinions" with facts and reason and logic and evidence, but I guess we'll just have to smile and tolerate them because to do otherwise is mean to them.

You would be correct. There is money for promoting women to have children instead of aborting them, but there is no money to assist them once the child is born.

Actually, they cut that funding last year and haven't put it back. So... haha ha, Compassionate Conservatism.

Oh no worries.. There are never enough babies to adopt. Adoptive parents are always looking for newborns.
( yes that was sarcasm )

That said, there are many older children in the foster care system looking for a place to call home and parent(s) to love them.

So most people think that the policies of Democrats is the reason for Detroit's massive problems.

Apparently the Republican dominated government of Michigan thought that the destitution of Detroit was a challenge to exceed, rather than a warning to heed.
