Slowdog: I would have thought that, no matter how much I hate them, at least hipsters hate Nazis.  And I would have thought that, while irredeemably evil, at least Nazis hate hipsters.  But no, now we've got this vortex of fail caused by Nazi hipsters.  That is a Venn diagram I was not expecting.  Also, FTA:

In recent years, a number of extreme-right hip-hop acts have emerged in Germany... There is now neo-Nazi techno (biggest act: DJ Adolf) and neo-Nazi reggae.

What The everlovin' fark.

DeArmondVI: Well, to be fair, Hitler was a failed artist who blamed others/the system for not recognizing his perceived artistic genius.

This is why I got a very uneasy feeling when Dubya took up painting.

No, it's an app for finding Japanese singles in your area.

Hitler was a bit of an artist and Albert Speer who played a major role and was about as much of a friend to Hitler as anyone was an architect. A lot of the imagery came from Speer.

He was the one who created the iconic "cathedral of light" for a rally: [www.imd.tu-bs.de image 850x637]

He was also a founding member of the music group Spandau Ballet.

No, you got an uneasy feeling because you're douching up a FARK thread with politics and deep down you feel bad.

Sometimes a joke is just a joke, dude.  And I don't feel bad in the slightest.  But I'll be sure to carefully review my posts if I see you in a thread to make sure I don't upset your sensitivities.

Bringing politics to a Nazi thread...next you'll accuse me of bringing a bathing suit to the pool.

Son of Thunder: NOT going to read three pages of "This attention whore Nazi is a Nazi attention whore".

I do wonder, though, if this is a diseased variant on the Evil is Cool thing.  Less pathological people know that Darth Vader is cooler than Luke, that Cobra is cooler than GIJoe, and that Doctor Doom is cooler than Reed Richards, and so we buy t-shirts with the Cobra logo (I wear a Doctor Doom necktie when I give my students final exams, and I'm looking for a good Dalek tie), but we do not take it into the real world.  Take the Nazis' esthetic that has been mentioned in the thread (and I agree, those Solingen knives are awesome-looking), and add one attention-whore with a bit of psychopathy, and you get Nazi hipsters

Shouldn't your shirt say "Darth Grader"?

There are three different Dalek neckties on Etsy, by the way.

dittybopper: Pocket Ninja: dittybopper: I was under the impression that the Nazis were pretty much always stylish.

I'm not sure that was so much "stylish" as it was "understanding that human beings respond predictably to structured, hierarchical ornamentation." See also any uniformed military, the Catholic church, BSA, etc etc etc.

Not to say that all those organizations are like Nazis, of course.

Yeah, but it was a bit more than that.  They put some real effort into how the uniforms looked, into their architecture, their symbols, and even arguably into how their weapons looked.

I have to agree with this. To me, Nazi uniforms look so intimidating. Doesn't mean I'm going to go out and buy one, but mostly because they don't come in quadruple extra fat.
