And yet if you do beat it rhythmically, you'll go blind. Is there no way to be healthy?

I heard the NPR story on the radio this morning and began laughing when I heard the "beep" recording when they tested his rhythm. It sounded completely like he was guessing what to do next.

I do too, but not on purpose.  I just seem to be about a 1/2 second behind the beat and inconsistant.  It really does mess with other people around you though, eh?

/ I once had to hum the theme song from Hockey Night In Canada for one of those party games and the group of 5 die hard Leaf fans couldn't recognise what the fark I was humming and I'm pretty sure the fault wasn't with all of them.
// for non-Canadians; we learn that theme song before we can even walk, it's mandatory here in Canukistan.

People who think that being black means you can dance should go to youtube and spend some quality time watching Soul Train. There are some great dancers, for sure, but there are also many who make my honkus maximus, drunken-WASP-relatives-at-a-wedding-reception look like Michael Jackson. There are moves on Soul Train that were choreographed at a Shriner's convention.

I remember watching something a few years ago...not sure if TV or internet...it was Democrats and Republicans clapping along to some song and the Republicans were way out of sync, but the Dems all kept a beat.

2014-06-24 02:35:27 PM

I take offense to this.  I am Asian, and can confirm that our people are also unable to keep the beat.

So, let me make sure I rtfa correctly.  One person out of "dozens" in their study has issues with keeping semi-complex beats (it says he was fine with techno), therefore it's now classified as a "musical" brain "disorder" (as opposed to a "painting" or "sculpting" brain disorder?), even though the neuroscientist herself admits there is no specific part of the brain that would govern such?

Just because there was only one in the study doesn't mean there's only one person with the problem.

It is a perfect description of how I am.  Unless there is a horrendously obvious beat (I don't know about styles, but for me it takes something like a drum pounding it out) it's simply not there for me.  The only way I can keep the rhythm while dancing is to watch other people.

Furthermore, I'm not alone in this--my father had the exact same problem and came up with the exact same solution.  I'm sure there are more than three of us.
