There are MUCH nicer cars on that page than the Corvette.

I'd rather have a '63 C3 Corvette myself. But even that isn't the most beautiful American car. My personal favorite in that regard is the 1965-1969 Chevrolet Corvair coupe:

GM really was the styling leader, once upon a time.

I would like to own 2 vehicles. An all-mechanical truck or jeep (so pre-1988 or so) and a Tesla.

It's a very, very nice looking vehicle. That being said, I can think of quite a few better looking American cars. I'll just post the one, for now:

This was my favorite in real time when I was in high school and cars mattered (and before we had five-figured aerodynamic but soulless econoboxes)

I was gonna rant about convertibles, but the author had the sense to say he liked the coupe better.  Why he couldn't find a picture of that version...who knows.

As for most beautiful car...I assume it's a generational thing.  Personally, the Viper is still the best looking non-concept/super car made, and it just so happens to have been first designed when I was a young kid.  I doubt that's a coincidence.

My grandfather, on the other hand, owned a third generation white Stingray for most of my life.  Sure, I virtually never worked, but every time I visited it was sitting in the driveway when I showed up (probably because it couldn't move).

A family friend had one of these

1.bp.blogspot.com

When she sold her condo, I was recruited to drive it to her new house.  On the one hand, it was one sexy car.  On the other hand, she was on the short side and the seat had been modified to fit her.  That was an uncomfortable drive.  Head brushing the roof, trying not to hit my knees with every turn.

Maybe, but when you are inside, that feel like some really cheap stuff, for what is supposed to be a luxury brand.

Well, it is a Forduar. The power train's awesome, though (mine's a convertible). And the walnut dashboard is pretty.

For something along similar lines I'd prefer an Aston Martin or Maserati.

I also think this is a beautiful car:

Beautiful! My brother has a '68 rt. As far as beautiful American cars go, just look on the Auburn Indiana auction site. If you are a car guy, you'll see a dozen cars you would suffocate a baby to own.

Is this the thread where we lament the passing of automotive styling?  I hope so.  Cause I had a lot of cars that actually were the product of designers, and I miss that.

2014-06-24 06:36:16 AM
Oh, and one of my favorites that my dad owned was the '66 GTO. hardtop
421 with 3. 2'S. used to put a fiver on the dash in front of me, and tell me if I could grab it I could have it.

2014-06-24 06:42:33 AM
I have owned over 63 vehicles.  Most of them were beaters, but I had a few gems I really miss.  It astounds me in an age where the sales points for cars are the drag coefficient, self parking features and how many airbags it has that they can't work in some sort of aesthetic that doesn't look like a Japanese monster movie prop.

2014-06-24 06:49:25 AM
I had one of these, too
