Give it up, Cleveland. He's not coming back.

LeBron can either go to a ready-made team that needs a star to get over the hump (Clippers, Rockets, Bulls), or have a team built around him. If he wants to go to the West and actually compete for a conference title, that team might be Dallas, Phoenix (Lakers if Kobe was guaranteed to leave and Jim Buss wasn't functionally retarded). If he wants to stay in the East and have a team built around him, why would he leave Miami? To go to New York and run with Melo in that clusterfark of an organization?

Did you know the Bulls are in the Eastern Conference?

I think Cleveland knows he isn't coming back.  And when he breaks the news of his intentions, however he chooses to do so, they can believe they justify themselves by saying they didn't want him back anyways after that shiate storm in 2010.

Remember when the PR train was just a slight rumble you could/couldn't quite hone in on?

Now it's just tearing right through the surface and attacking Kevin Bacon and Kevin Ward with subtlety set to nil.

I know this sounds weird to people on a website for angry, misanthropic loners, but some people like to visit friends and family in their old hometown.

Not saying that Ohio is great, but Miami is kinda a shiatty place.

LeBron on the current Cavs roster makes the Finals easy.

I don't really care about basketball, but if I were a Cav fan, I wouldn't want him back no matter how good he is. It would be awkward, like letting your wife back in the house after she cheats on you. You might have a little angry sex from time to time, but the cloud will never stop hanging over the room.

So this means he is free to come to Atlanta.  We'll gladly build a team around him.  Lord knows we have salary cap space.

Maybe we can make it past the first round next year... right?  right??

Lebron on about half the East teams is likely to make the finals.

As long as Dan Gilbert still owns that franchise, he's not going back, nor should he.

Melo is also a free agent and is almost certainly not going back to the Knicks.

Sometimes I think LeBron on his own is likely to make the finals in the East.

Honest, non-confrontational question: You say almost certainly. Is it possible for him to change his mind at this point, or would he need a new contract to stay with the Knicks?

He made the finals easy 4 years in a row.

LeBron on Cavs also gets curb-stomped by the Spurs for a few years.

He's officially opted out. The only way he goes back is if Dolan decides to give Melo the 5-year supermax contract that only the Knicks are allowed to give him. (Notice that I don't think Phill Jackson would have much say in that decision.)

Amazing, when the Knicks bring in someone who knows a little bit about basketball (Fisher), and has some clout for teambuilding (Phil), Melo wants nothing to do with it and takes his ball to go somewhere else where he won't have to play well with others.

Carmelo Anthony is the worst "superstar" in NBA history.

Since no one else answered yet...yes. He can go back to the knicks if this doesn't work out for him. Depending on his contract, the knicks may actually be able to pay him slightly more than other teams, but he won't be back imo. The Knicks suck.

This...and the Bulls want him?!

I guess they want to challenge themselves and if they can play 4-on-5 NBA defense.

There's no guarantee that Fisher will be a good coach or that Jackson will be a good GM.  The one sure thing is that their owner makes Dan Snyder look rational.  Oh, and they're shiatty but they don't have any draft picks because they keep trading them for guys like Bargiani.  The Knicks are a dumpster fire.  He made a huge mistake forcing a trade there in the first place but there's no reason to double down on old bad decisions.
