Actually Bull sharks are fairly infamous for being able to survive brackish waters. terrorize riverside communities in developing countries, etc.

This is ~5 miles from where I live, and the pond in that park is pretty small, unlikely to ever have swimmers in it. I'd be more worried about the occasional gator.

That said, it's about 1/2 mile from the intracoastal waterway, a largish marina, and a pretty well-attended fishing area. So lulz are likely to blame.

Sharks can live a long time out of water, and the area is not far from the sea.

Some prankster dragged it in and dumped it, simple.

In Corpus some guy caught an 8--foot tiger shark, cut out the jaws and let it hang by its tail all day in the hot sun.  Some tourist cut it down, and in the morning there were slither marks where it crawled back into the ocean to die.

Wha? DNRTFA, but bull sharks can easily survive low-salinity and freshwater, and are often found far inland in rivers.

2014-06-23 06:37:55 PM
The answer is simple: It swam up there because of global warming.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said they are looking into what kind of action they can take if they locate who put the shark in the pond.

Courtney Bayer, her husband, and their two children visit Gleason Park all of the time. But they didn't know what was lurking in the tiny pond where turtles, fish and birds normal are.

Spellcheck can't do it all for you, people.

Yes, slither marks, not drag marks which would be the obvious answer. Occam weeps.

I once saw a dead nurse shark in Kerr Lake, ~150 miles from the coast.  Someone went a long way for a prank that day.

In 1916 a bull shark swam into Matawan creek. 4 were killed and 1 was injured.
