Mind of the North Star:

Hmmm....I never thought about it illogically that way before. That's it screw the stats!! Lebron is the G.O.A.T!

LeBron's stats are just as good as if not slightly better than Jordan's.

Not sure I get what that pic was trying to convey either, because as I see it, LeBron makes the players around him better than Jordan did.

How so?

"Help" isn't really the right word. Depth is more accurate.

Add up those PPG and add on Lebron's 25+. That's likely 90% of the Heat's scoring in those finals. 4 or 5 people providing that much offense means the team is dependent on just a few people to do all the scoring. That means the team has no depth. Hence, Lebron needs help.

Jordan's teams were fantastically deep. They had a ton of people spreading the ball and the scoring load. You can and should lean on LeBron and Jordan, but they can only do what they do; 30/7/7, every night. When the rest of team can't play, you need help, or rather, depth.

And that's ignoring the fact that one of the players on the second Bulls threepeat was the best rebounder of all time, whose offensive job was to get the ball and reset the offense. And that Lebron's role isn't primarily a scorer. He's their playmaker. He makes passes, and passes that lead to passes. The Heat lost in the finals at least partially because LeBron's assist numbers were down. Not because he wasn't making passes, but because his team was missing open looks constantly.

Let's compare 2014 to 1997:

Jordan only needed 67 more shots (and 26 more FTA) to score a whole 53 more points than LeBron. What an offensive juggernaut.

As I pointed out the last time this stupid image was posted, here are the things 2014 LeBron led his team in the Finals in:

MIN, FG, FGA, FG%, 3P, 3PA, 3P%, FT, FTA, ORB, DRB, TRB, AST, STL, PTS

Here are the things 1997 Jordan led his team in the Finals in:

FG, FGA, FT, FTA, AST, PTS

Here are the things 1997 Pippen led his team in the Finals in:

3P, 3PA, ORB, DRB, TRB, STL, BLK, MIN

Here is the entire list of basic stats that LeBron did NOT lead the Heat in:

Blocks (Andersen had 3, he had 2)
FT% (third behind Ray Allen and Chris Bosh)

And isn't the "LeBron doesn't have any help" from his time in Cleveland, when Dan Gilbert and Danny Ferry gave him Mo Williams, an Antwan Jamison in his early 30s, half a Shaq, Delonte West the Cougar-Slayer, Anderson Varejao, and Zydrynys Iylgyskys.  Williams and Jamison were the only other two players to average 15 PPG in LeBron's last season in Cleveland.

And the year he drug them into the Finals?  Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, and Zydrynyrd Skynyrd - 14.9, 11.9, & 11.1 PPG, respectively.

 LOL

Lebron is a slightly better rebounder. Whatever, I'll give him that and he should be given his size and athleticism. Him playing this point forward role is obviously going to give the impression that he's a better team player/passer... he's not. Jordan played PG for a short period of time. It almost wasn't fair how easy it was for him. Triple doubles were a dime a dozen for MJ.

Who has Lebron made SOOO much better? Lebron had to team up with 2 of the top 5 players in his own draft class to get his rings. Until Lebron turns someone into a HOF'er (Like MJ did) I don't wanna hear that stuff.

ElwoodCuse: Yeah are we really going to pretend that Jordan wasn't one of the biggest assholes of all time?

He isn't.  Being an asshole and being "one of the biggest assholes of all time" are two completely different things.  He's no Sean Avery or Kyle Busch.

He turned Mo Williams into an All-star. Jordan played with one of the top 5 players in the league. Pippen was roughly as good as Wade in his prime, but Wade's prime was over about 2 years before LeBron joined the Heat.

Pippen rode the bench when he came into the league. It's well documented that Jordan was a built him up after Pippen's rookie season.

Lebron James  doesn't elevate the people around him any better than Jordan did.

It is a fact that Pippen achieved more without Jordan (more playoff success via multiple teams) than Jordan achieved without Pippen.

1)Never said anything about Rodman.

If we gave Jordan a dime per dozen times he had a triple-double, he'd have 20 cents. LeBron has 21 more triple-doubles than Jordan had in his whole career.

That was in regards to the specific period in time that Jordan played point guard.

As a general rule, players improve after their rookie seasons.

Shocking, I know.

Playoff triple-doubles:

LeBron: 11
Pippen: 4
Jordan: 2
Wade: 0

Total triple-doubles:

LeBron: 48
Jordan: 27
Pippen: 21
Wade: 4

It's tough out there having to be Jordan AND Pippen while your co-"superstar" takes half the season off to "rest up for the playoffs" and shoots with an effective FG% of 45 percent in the Finals. The only guy on the Spurs with a worse effective FG% during the Finals (who played) was Boris Diaw - all he did was lead both teams in assists.

It is interesting that he only spent 10 games sharing the ball before deciding it wouldn't work, even though the Bulls were 5-1 when he had said triple-double and DIDN'T shoot more than 25 times in the game.

They were 0-4 when he did. But hey, gotta shoot 30+ times a game to get those scoring titles.

Honestly, you make a real rational point. However, Lebron can't take that stance since he proclaimed the his Heat would win 7 championships at the least. Who knows.... maybe they can if they add a few more all-stars

Let's see... Jordan failed to make the playoffs twice (with the Wizards), lost in the first round 3 times, lost in the second round twice, lost in the conference finals twice, won the finals 6 times. LeBron failed to make the playoffs twice (at an age that is younger than Jordan played in the NBA, mind), lost in the first round never, lost in the second round 3 times, lost in the conference finals once, lost in the finals 3 times, and won the finals twice. So Lebron has averaged taking his teams roughly as far as Jordan, if you assign 1 point per round + 1 for winning the finals(43 in 15 seasons vs 31 in 11 season). And Lebron is still younger than Jordan was when he started his second threepeat. He'll probably end his career worse in this though, since Jordan only played as a veteran player for 2 years, when he un-retired for the second time. so he didn't have a lot of years where he tried to carry a team after his prime.

Did Jordan do that? As long as he didn't be against himself, I don't really see the problem. It just incentivizes him to play even harder.
