The way the Post paints it, Powell is under pressure lately, and he showed it by snapping at a Hill staffer. The fact here is that he couldn't maintain his composure during a hearing, because a staffer shook their head. He wasted time berating this person, and causing the hearing to nearly derail. All because someone nonverbally disagreed with him, and someone for that matter, who probably has little role in the decision making process.

legislative staffers have a responsibility to be a potted plant and do not a thing as the big dogs rumble. until you are asked, you do not express your opinion. that's part of the job, and if you can't hack sitting still like a good boy or girl and simply must express your own opinion, then get another job.

well, say you're colin powell, and you're a man with principles, dignity, and a sense of honor. I agree with Albo, staffers should be quietly attentive and not offer editorial comments, however subtle. Staffers represent their offices, and when I worked in the Senate I always had to be careful of what I said and did. I'm not sure it deserves the 'Hero' tag, but Congress has been working with wonderful double-standards lately.
