i'm giving up eating chickens and cows and switching to eating PETA members.

slow cooked shoulder of pam anderson pulled and topped with barbeque sauce...mmmmm.

2004-02-12 09:59:34 AM
Mmmm...chicken.

2004-02-12 10:05:58 AM
I have no patience for these people. In this day and age, some people have way too much time on their hands

2004-02-12 10:58:50 AM
I'll take mine medium rare.

2004-02-12 11:00:11 AM
Love their scare tactics. They seem to have no problem with causing possible harm to humans which, last time I checked, were members of the animal generation.

Please Eat Tasty Animals

Remember chickens can still shoot with no head.

2004-02-12 11:55:15 AM
They're going to show the ads in Toppenish and Yakima, WA? Those are major cattle-raising areas. I predict the ads go over like a turd in the punch bowl.

2004-02-12 11:57:46 AM
PETA has a lot in common with Bible-thumping Christians. The majority of Americans don't care what other people eat or worship, but they'd rather not have the beliefs of others pushed on them or preached at them.

2004-02-12 12:08:21 PM
I get the feeling there are lots of closet PETA members on FARK, and I find the org more amusing than actually helpful. I pay $16/year to see things like the "Mommy Kills" flyer and they even sent 10 of them in the mail..

2004-02-12 03:32:51 PM
Just for this I am having a double order of steak tips for dinner this evening. God gave man dominion over animals...............and steak tastes awesome.

2004-02-12 03:33:27 PM
I'm not so scared of beef as I am of poultry. The things they do to raise chickens are DISGUSTING.

I only eat fish and veg for health reasons, but if someone credible would guarantee me I'd get healthier if I went back to eating meat, I think I still would avoid chicken.

2004-02-12 03:33:52 PM
We haven't learned from the Cows With Guns Fiasco. Now we're moving on to the Chickens In Choppers scenario?

I'm starting a shadow PETA: People for the Extermination of Tedious Activists.

"...To bear arms and arm bears and all points in between..."

2004-02-12 03:35:00 PM
However annoying the PETA folks are, I still think it's true that the animals are treated cruelly as they're raised and slaughtered. Is it hypocritical for me to say we shouldn't stop eating meat? Couldn't we just change the way the animals are treated?

2004-02-12 03:35:02 PM
cockfights are getting serious

2004-02-12 03:35:22 PM

"The best thing anyone who doesn't want to support horrific cruelty to animals or put their family in harm's way can do with any meat in their refrigerator is to throw it in the trash can," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said."

So that the emanciated PETA members can steal it and get their protein for free.

2004-02-12 03:35:24 PM
mmmmmmmmm.......
open pit, peta member on a spit

2004-02-12 03:35:44 PM

Okay then!

We've got a Bush thread (two if you count the dentist one)!
We've got a Kerry thread (two if you count the blog link)!
Now a PeTA thread!

If we can just get a religion thread going, then there'll be someone here for EVERYONE to hate!

Ooga-chaka ooga-chaka ooga-ooga-ooga-chaka!

2004-02-12 03:40:26 PM
I like how the article is sponsored by a restaurant specializing in smoked meats!

/PETA sucks

2004-02-12 03:40:53 PM
I don't know how to paste a cartoon in here. Could someone find B. Kliban's cartoon captioned "Never give a gun to ducks"?

2004-02-12 03:41:09 PM
not surprising PETA is targeting the campaign in yakima, WA... those people will believe anything you tell them, when they're not cooking their meth

In the immortal words of the esteemed Reverend Horton Heat:

Eat steak, eat steak eat a big ol' steer
Eat steak, eat steak do we have one dear?
Eat beef, eat beef it's a mighty good food
It's a grade A meal when I'm in the mood.

Cowpokes'll come from a near and far
When you throw a few rib-eyes on the fire
Roberto Duran ate two before a fight
'Cause it gave a lot of mighty men a lot of mighty might

Eat steak, eat steak eat a big ol' steer
Eat steak, eat steak do we have one dear?
Eat beef, eat beef it's a mighty good food
It's a grade A meal when I'm in the mood.

Eat meat, eat meat, filet mignon
Eat meat, eat meat, eat it all day long
Eat a few T-bones till you get your fill
Eat a new york cut, hot off the grill

Eat steak, eat steak eat a big ol' steer
Eat steak, eat steak do we have one dear?
Eat beef, eat beef it's a mighty good food
It's a grade A meal when I'm in the mood.

Eat a cow, eat a cow 'cuase it's good for you
Eat a cow, eat a cow it's the thing that goes "Mooooo"

Look at all the cows in the slaughterhouse yeard
Gotta hit'em in the head, gotta hit'em real hard
First you gotta clean'em then the butcher cuts'em up
Throws it on a scale throws an eyeball in a cup

Saw a big Brangus Steer standing right over there
So I rustled up a fire cooked him medium rare
Bar-B-Q'ed his brisket, a roasted his rump
Fed my dog that ol' Brangus Steer's hump

Eat steak, eat steak eat a big ol' steer
Eat steak, eat steak do we have one dear?
Eat beef, eat beef it's a mighty good food
It's a grade A meal when I'm in the mood.

/reads this after returning to my desk with BBQ chicken sandwidch from KFC.

finger licking good.

2004-02-12 03:45:45 PM
I'm still waiting for their "Love animals. Do a cow today." campaign. That'd be great. The billboard would be priceless.

2004-02-12 03:45:51 PM
Am I the only one who finds the "cows with guns" mp3/swf insanely annoying?

It seems like since ThreeBrain published "Wheeee," internetters have doubled their time in the nerdery, trying to construct a new animation/song that out-annoys the last. It's like some sort of small penis contest...

2004-02-12 03:47:02 PM
can i still give revolvers to monkeys, though?

2004-02-12 03:47:19 PM
just PETA going off half cocked again. . .

Scientists at two universities and the Denver-based National Cattlemen's Beef Association rejected PETA's claims. No published research shows that poultry is susceptible to BSE, they said.

Well that entirely clears it up. Except there's some evidence that the infectious form can survive long term in the brain and spleen of animals that aren't susceptible to it.

Of course, your odds of dying from it would be somewhere between nailing both Olsen twins on national TV and being electrocuted by a toaster.

2004-02-12 03:49:57 PM
Bah, it dropped my link to an NIH article about the possibility of infection by non-susceptible animals.

http://www.niaid.nih.gov/publications/dateline/0998/page6.htm

2004-02-12 03:50:17 PM
Where's da beef??!

2004-02-12 03:51:22 PM
kronicfeld except I'm pretty certain Cows With Guns predates Gonads and Strife by several years.

2004-02-12 03:54:12 PM
PETA's nothing but a bunch of lying propagandists. Even most other vegetarians (in my experience, anyway) hate them.

2004-02-12 03:54:47 PM
Of course, your odds of dying from it would be somewhere between nailing both Olsen twins on national TV and being electrocuted by a toaster.

What about the odds of nailing both Olsen Twins with a toaster on public access?

2004-02-12 03:55:54 PM
"The best thing anyone who doesn't want to support horrific cruelty to animals or put their family in harm's way can do with any meat in their refrigerator is to throw it in the trash can," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said.

Obviously a much better fate than being eaten and providing nourishment for another living thing.

2004-02-12 04:01:23 PM
I disagree with PETA on a lot of issues, but I fully support the right of their more attractive female members to take off all of their clothing to protest fur.

Or for any reason at all, really.

2004-02-12 04:03:56 PM
My dad always told me, "Never give a gun to ducks." We had to put him in a home, because he never made sense.

2004-02-12 04:06:27 PM
Actually, the scary part of the study cited in that NIH article is that brain from the mice that didn't get sick was able to then make other mice sick (mice are resistant to the hamster form, much like chicken are resistant to the bovine form...thus always assumed safe). In other words, they were able to get the prion to jump species in a single generation.

Here is a slightly better blurb about the paper from the NIH.

2004-02-12 04:06:46 PM
WalrusKing,
That is the title from a B. Kliban cartoon. Your dad may have seen it. I think it may be from the book "Whack Your Porcupine".

2004-02-12 04:09:02 PM
Good way to get people behind your cause.
Have every ad be dumber then the one before.

2004-02-12 04:10:25 PM
I hate PETA. As a meat eater whose mother owns a fur coat, as an American who believes in libertarian "live and let live ideas", and as someone who isn't terribly fond of terrorists, be they of the Saudi-dwelling type or of the California-dwelling variety.

Now here's something I wonder about. PETA has claimed they're fighting a war (jihad?) on behalf of animals. Check their internal memos and propaganda to their more fanatical members. They consider violent acts to be an acceptable means to an end.

So here's what I want to see. I want to see meat-eaters organize. MEAT: Minimizing Eco-freak Assault Tactics.

MEAT would be the commando force that would give PETA a taste of their own medicine. We'd firebomb PETA headquarters, spray Kalashnikov slugs into PETA public demonstrations, and use a phone campaign to solicit donations from all the meat-eaters who are concerned about human (rather than animal) rights.

If it's war they want, I say it should be war they get.

FARK PETA.

2004-02-12 04:11:57 PM
Wow, just when you think the bozos at PETA can't be any more out of touch with reality, they go off and pull something like this to prove you wrong. Thanks for keeping me on my toes PETA freaks.
