Still gonna.

I agree with the pizza; for ideal reheating it's stove top with a cast iron pan. But in reality...I eat it cold, it's fine that way.

Soup? Frozen soup or cold soup in the fridge doesn't give a fark if it's microwaved to heat up. There's no reason to use gas or electricity for an hour to simmer/reheat a soup when a 50percent  power on the microwave does the same thing in a few mins. Sure there are somethings that really don't do well in microwave for reheating; but soup is not one of them.

I agree. Nothing tastes better on a weekend morning like pizza flambé.

I prefer to eat leftover pizza cold.
I reheat soup/stew in a sauce pan on the stove.
Leftover pasta gets reheated in a shallow skillet, but I use a small amount of butter in the pan, not oil. Tastes better that way IMHO.

For me it often depends on the volume I'm reheating. A big container of soup hearts just as fast on the stove, but a single portion bowl is faster in the microwave. And i actually like most veggies cooked in the microwave. Breads don't always do well though.

Nah: Spaghetti: Keep the sauce and the noodles separate. Reheat the sauce in the microwave. Put the noodles in a colander and run really hot water over them. Tastes more or less like you just cooked it. Noodles (if cooked al dente) will remain al dente.

Pfffft ... like I reheat pizza.

3 different methods for me...

Spaghetti in a saucepan with some added water.
Pizza in the toaster oven.
Soup in the microwave.

Interesting. I will try that.

However, pizza is fine in the microwave. My protip: warm it just slightly. If you nuke it until it is piping hot it will become a sodden mess of sadness. If you give it just a touch of warmth, it will be ok. This is for people who don't like it cold, obviously. If you can eat it cold, that's best.

If you're reheating pizza, you're doing wrong.just stop and step away from the oven. Grab a beer, get the pizza and sit down.

For the others,it's fine if you're lazy like me.

Spending 18 minutes to heat up a muffin it was will take 2 minutes to eat is a complete waste. 20 seconds in the microwave and bam. Hot muffin.

I always heard a minute a strip. I usually go for five minutes because that's all I can fit on the plate in bacon's raw form.

What if all your food was originally cooked in the microwave? Does all this still apply to Hot Pockets and pizza rolls?

2014-06-23 01:47:57 AM
I'm reheating food, not making a fresh meal. Those methods all take time and most require me doing dishes afterward. They might all produce superior food, but the point of microwaving food is speed and convenience, not quality.

I can see 30 seconds for the thin pre-cooked stuff, maybe.  For real bacon, I'm with you, always a minute per slice.

Pizza Hut deep dish...reheat in oven.   Thin cracker style pizza... Microwave.  Agreed with other posters depends on the quantity and time I have.

I much prefer cold pizza. Usually I'll older/pickup (Italian Delight in KC for the best local NY style) pizza a day before I want it, just so I can have it cold.

As far as reheating, since my wife doesn't like cold pizza, I've found the cast iron skillet method works perfectly. Although usually it's easier to just toss it in the Breville for 6 or 7 minutes, and that only requires foil and the pizza pan.

This "article" originally appeared in The Huffington Post.

I like to throw cold pasta into boiling water for a couple of seconds.  Damn.  Now I feel "qualified" to be a "journalist."

WTF, half the fun of left over pizza is the food poisoning roulette of putting the box in the oven (off) ove night and eating it in the morning.

That way it doesn't get that sweaty fridge pizza syndrome and you get the thrill of waiting for whatever is gonna hit you.

Cold pizza and flat warm diet soda to wash it down. The only way to do it.

The best way to reheat steak or chicken is to slice it into small pieces and warm it in an oiled fry pan.

That's not reheating that's recooking.  If you have to clean a pan there is no joy in having leftovers, dumb farking article.

Sweet, leftover muffins! Good thing I was scrounging for leftovers half an hour before I was hungry. And it only takes as long to reheat them as it does to make fresh ones!

2014-06-23 02:12:20 AM
General rule: if you would steam it or boil it, microwave is fine. Otherwise no.

/but why the fark be picky about leftover pizza, really

2014-06-23 02:14:35 AM
Sounds like anti-microwave bullshiat. It's true some things can't be reheated in the microwave, but they can't be cooked in the microwave either.

2014-06-23 02:15:11 AM
Nope, I'll put pizza in the nuker, cover it with a damp paper towel, same with spaghetti.
Bachelor days it was a slice of pizza, can of beer in the blender, throw in Twinkies to suit.

meat0918: Who reheats pizza?

Cold pizza is evil.  There are thousands if not millions of people who say cold pizza is just as good as hot pizza, and they are all deeply, deeply farked in the head.

Seriously, I do not know wtf is wrong with people who actually LIKE their pizza cold.

NobleHam: I'm reheating food, not making a fresh meal. Those methods all take time and most require me doing dishes afterward. They might all produce superior food, but the point of microwaving food is speed and convenience, not quality.

Exactly. At work, I've got 30 minutes for lunch break and three microwaves - not an oven or fry pan in sight. I'm not going for gourmet, here.
Most people, IMO, tend to over-nuke and that's what destroys the last bit of flavor. As noted above, irradiate your pizza almost all the way and then let it sit - by the time you get to your table/desk/barstool, the overly-warmed edges will dissipate their heat towards the center and finish the cheese-softening process, without hitting a ten on the Gaffigan scale.
Ditto soup and pasta. Heat a minute or two, stir well, heat another minute, set on the table and let Nature's antithesis take its course.
Or am I over-thinking this?

Eggs:
Who the hell reheats eggs? If you have leftover eggs practice making less eggs until you get it just right. The article says eggs are "really good" cold. In some cultures raw monkey brains are a delicacy. Who am I to question other people's disgusting practices?

Pizza:
Eat it cold. Cold pizza is delicious. Unless the pizza wasn't all that great to begin with, and that's a different problem altogether. If your cold pizza tastes like burnt cardboard you may have had too much to drink the night before.

Soup and Stews:
In a pot on the stove or in the microwave, it doesn't matter. You may want to add a little water because microwaves heat up water.

Muffin:
Preheat oven to 180 degrees, place muffin in oven, covered, for 15 minutes, remove and let stand uncovered for three minutes, eat muffin.
Pigs will fly over the frozen plains of Hell before I follow those instructions. It's a cold muffin. See if your dog likes muffin. If not, shout "two points" after sinking muffin in trash can.

Steak:
Cut into small pieces and throw it into your salad. Why do you have leftover steak? Don't you love your dog? Also good sliced thin on sandwiches. If you must reheat steak do what the article said and heat in an oiled pan.

Roasted veggies:
Leftover roasted veggies are good on sandwiches or in a salad.

Pasta:
If you have a lot of cold pasta make a spicy peanut sauce, add shredded cooked chicken breast and peeled diced cucumbers. You're welcome. Never reheat pasta - see Eggs.

Coffee:
If you reheat coffee you deserve what you get. "It will never taste the same" is an understatement. In the lexicon of what things taste like, reheated coffee is a category unto itself, and not a good one. Do you go around drinking the dregs out of beer cups the morning after a party? No, you do not. Do not reheat coffee.

Those people are wrong. Often times the cold pizza is better than the hot pizza. As to what's wrong with us, there are probably a lot of things. Liking pizza in its perfect state is not one of them.

I am convinced that people who like cold pizza only like it that way because they did not grow up with a toaster oven, which is the god-king of ways to reheat pizza.

I'll use the leftover bacon grease in the pan because I was too lazy to clean after breakfast, but yeah, that's a recook.

And then I continue on as normal.

Cold pizza is one of the seven basic food groups. If it has bacon on it it's two of the basic food groups.

I don't know if I've ever used anything but a microwave to reheat leftovers.  Anything else just seems like a waste of time and doesn't taste noticeably different.

And cold pizza is disgusting.

Listen, everyone. Some people like leftover pizza cold. Some like it reheated. Some kinda do both (I usually eat a cold slice while a couple more slices are reheating).

People have different tastes, it's fine. When you go ranting about how your way, a subjective preference, is the objectively superior way, it only displays that you don't understand basic concepts like subjectivity, and frankly it just comes off a bit insecure.

Let it go. Enjoy your pizza.

I used to do bacon in the microwave, but I've found frying in a non-stick pan creates less mess and waste (no paper bag or towels to throw away). Plus I find frying bacon enjoyable, for some reason.
